I tried getting vsphere 60 day trial and setup vsphere on both hosts. When I try to migrate the vm around. I get a bunch of errors and won't work. Anyone know of a way to move my vms around.

1. You must have vcenter web client to "move to" another host aka DAS to DAS vmotion/svmotion! The exe client is stuck on 5.0 and is missing all the good features.

2. you have to setup vmotion on the switch

3. the vswitch has to be the same.

4. the cpu's have to be the same (or setup EVC ahead of time which is a big downer! Reason why you keep all servers on the same chip level).

5. Any mounted dvd must be available on both sides (aka unmount any dvd/iso first!)

Post the error after you review my tips and tell me what happens.

If you can't afford the higher end license, you will need to use ghetto-vmotion which is suspend the vm, then "MIGRATE" it to another host, then un-suspend it (veeam supports this, and you can powerscript it) but it causes massive downtime and perhaps clock skew.

Would help if you said what the actual errors say. How about a screenshot?
The virtual machine requires hardware features that are unsupported or disabled on the target host:
* Carryless multiply (PCLMULQDQ) (see KB 1034926)
* AES instructions (AES-NI) (see KB 1034926)

If possible, use a cluster with Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) enabled; see KB article 1003212.

CPUID details: incompatibility at level 0x1 register 'ecx'.
Host bits: 0000:0000:1001:1000:0010:0010:0000:0001
Required: x000:x01x:10x1:1xx0:xx10:xx1x:xx0x:xx11

It may not seem logical but you can't go from a 5520 to a L5639 [without EVC being enabled before booting] even though one might think the L5639 has all of the features of the 5520 cpu!!

you can go forward and backwards as long as you don't power down the vm and power it on the more advanced cpu set
