ESXi 6.7 Update manager

I am, mostly blindly, trying to update NIC driver for ESXi from the vCenter appliance.
I have almost no idea what am I doing and am going the trial and error (mostly error) way, because the documentation is so huge and confusing it makes no sense to me.
Thus far I understood I need to go to Update manager, updates, upload from file, and have the zip added to the repository.
Then baselines, new, type extension (that's what the file says after being added to the repository in previous step).
Now I see a new baseline.
And then what?
I am completely lost here.

Note that if you have only a single ESXi host, this approach will not work, since to upgrade your host vCenter will need to bring the host into a maintenance mode Closed for Maintenance: Things You Should Know About Maintenance Mode - VMWARE BLOG which means no virtual machines can remain running on it including vCenter itself.
