I tested it, locked. But somehow also bclk is locked and that is bad. If i set to like 101, 125, 133... the pc is starts but turn off after 1-2 sec loop.
It is stable and cool on stock speeds. According to hwinfo ecc mode is working. I use it with cheap ecc reg.
All core turbo is only 2.8ghz, few core turbo 3.2ghz.

Probably a long shot but I’ll throw this out there to seek the advice of others way smarter than I.

I’ve narrowed my choices in motherboard down to a single model based on requirements(matx and others) and it’s the X12SPM that appeals to me the most. Unfortunately this means Gen3 Intel Xeon Scalable and after reviewing the value graph here and looking around the cheapest I’m seeing is well over 1k per—even for silver line.

That led me to ES processors and this thread in particular. Are ES processors in Gen3 line something worth considering or is it going to be such a specific config that it’s not worth pursuing?

Thank you for the advice!

there are ES1 and ES2 3rd gen. avoid ES1.
for ES1 QU9B/QU99/QV2? i.e. you need X12DPi-N6 BIOS lower than 1.2 to work or on UP motherboards unofficial BIOS 1.0.
ES2 step 6 work on all SM boards, i have QWAQ 6330 ES2 working on X12SPL/X12SPM.
your X12SPM (i have one too) runs only ES2 stepping D0 (step 6)
if you can get BIOS 1.0
downgrade to BIOS 1.0 is blocked, the BIOS flash chip must replaced with a preprogrammed one containing BIOS 1.0

Thank you very much. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and help educate me. I’m guessing reaching out to the sellers on eBay to confirm stepping is the recommended course of action since they don’t seem to advertise that.

where are you looking ? silver 4310 starts at $500.
Newegg, Amazon and all the usual places. Must have missed that one in my search—the value guide here on STM with prices seems to be well off of what’s out there in the retail channel. Probably because prices are wholesale etc.

Randomly picked up a Asus Z11PA-D8. Any thoughts on a ES/QS around 24c/48t or 26c/52t that might work in it?

Gold 6141M QS QN5M 22C 2,1 GHz 150 W (ebay)
do you already have (Square ILM) coolers ? i don't want to sell one, just check prices & avail. maybe after it you don't want that board anymore...

It came with coolers, so its good to go. The QN5M would be perfect, Thanks!

I have a Dell R540 server and I want to put 1TB of RAM (16x 64GB 2.933MHz). I am looking for a CPU with 18+ cores and at least 2.40GHz. Could someone tell me if the Xeon Gold 6253CL or Platinum 8222CL are compatible with the Dell R540? Any other model that would be compatible up to $600 ~ $1,000?

sorry i was wrong in my last post(deleted) i had R640&R740 in mind...
Dell R440/R540 is shipped normaly with a missing VRM phase (4+1) and does not support 205W SKUs.
there is a special syste,-noard P/N which has all 5 VRM phase soldered. if you have this you are fine with the gold 6253CL.

I have 1x R440 and 2 R540 and I think they will not support 205W SKUs. =/

Hi,

I recently got my hands on a supermicro X12DPL-i6 essentially for free. Could someone help me in finding an Xeon ES that would work with it. Ideally above 12 cores. Or am I out of luck with this motherboard?

look for stepping D0 like
QWAS=6346 ES2 16 core
QWAQ=6330 ES2 28 core
QWAT=8368 ES2 38 Core
QUxx & QVxx are B0/C0 and do not work on bios above 1.00

'C' OEM custom CPU, specs are confidential.
except the 8273CL all 827?CL do not work on standard Motherboards.
for that reason i would say 8271CL will not on X11SPA-TF
