looks not special, but has different BIOS ID which prevents update to regular X11DPU BIOS with standard methods. but with programmer should work. this BIOS includes two microcodes
50652 SKL B0 PRE
50654 SKL H0 PRD

Thanks for taking a look - would that mean with that firmware I should be able to chuck in a processor such as QL29 without modifying the BIOS, or would I still need to make some changes?

I've also got a couple of QJW5 units here which I will try at some point too.

QL29 should work yes.
Note: the IPMI GUI maybe does block the downgrade

50651 SKL A2
no way, they are known to work only in HPE with oldest BIOS.

Hi @RolloZ170, as you know I purchased the Intel Xeon Gold 5218 ES version qq8m
for one of my 2 - X11DPL-I's (140TDP)

For the second board I was looking at the Intel
Xeon Gold 6148F QS QN3G 20C 2.4GHz 3.1/3.7GHz 27.5MB 150W

I see this is a 150w TDP will my board run it? Plus your opinion on the
Gold 6148F QS QN3G 20C vs the Gold 5218 ES version qq8m

thanks in advance
SV

6148F is a omnipath-fabric CPU, not supported by X11DPL-i. the voltage for the OPA controller (companion die) is missing.
the processor may start but you have (faulty)Temp.warnigs and clock speed under 800 mhz.

one tried anything but...

I received my Supermicro X11DPI-NT and tried to pair it with 8272CL. Cant manage to boot into BIOS. Black screen. Tested both CPUs in CPU0 socket and result is the same. I also tested mobo with a single 8280L and I was able to boot it and install Windows 10. Any idea what might cause the issue ?

My unraid setup isn't boothing up at the moment....I think from some tests it is the MB or CPU but not sure which one. I hooked up the PS to another system I have and that powered that system on.

Intel Xeon E5-2658 V3 ES QEYF 2.0Ghz 12Core 30M Equivalent to QEYP
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer i32
Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200)
ASRock X99 Extreme3 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CORSAIR CX-M series CX600M 600W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Modular Power Supply

Since this is an older setup but was still very solid for my use should I try and find another ASRock X99?

Any other suggestions?

Any easy way to test the MB?

buy the cheapest LGA2011-3 CPU you can find. will be less than $10 thought. i.e. E5-2609V3
some more info about the "isn't booting..." is welcome, debug code ? does it smell ? lights ?
It doesn't power up currently.
No debug code since no power.
No smell
No lights

The power supply powers up another MB/CPU combo I have. I also tried the PS from another working system and no go on this setup.

So I believe it is either the MB or CPU but not sure which one.

Ok but if the power supply isn't even turning on when connecting to the MB does that mean the MB is dead? If I take this PS hook it up to another MB/CPU combo all works fine.

Does anyone know how Socket 3647 CPUs work on SuperMicro boards?
Case in point, I've got a X11SPL-F and I'm wondering if Xeon Gold/Platinum ES's will work on it.

sklyake B0 stepping (cpuid 50652) are working with 2.x BIOS (except QL2K,need VRM upgrade and BIOS TDP modd)
sklyake B1 stepping (cpuid 50653) are working with modded BIOS
note the TDP limit of X11SPL BIOS 3.x is 165W, this is for all SKU, not only ES/QS.

the cpu ql2k is a es of plantium 8171m,not w3175x
most likely, its not clearly easy to connect a ES to a prodUnit SKU.
the QL2K has a Thermal Design Current(TDC) of 255A like the w-3175X
and the QL2K is fully unlocked, for that reason the QL2K is called 3175X ES.

oh,but in the second hand market, the "w3175xes" is more expensive than QL2K,but they are the same one;)
so some people prefer to call it QL2K/8171es step2 rather than "w3175x

correct, at taobao is a seller which pre-tests the QL2K(3175x) and/or can open them for TIM redo.

this suggests it works on many motherboards. but it don't work on all std.supermicro/Asus because the TDC and dont't work on ASRock/Gigabyte because of BIOS.
but,the DIYers don't like to by the cpus that have opened, because you can't return them to sellers:confused:,and 'w3175x es' is more expensive, about 30-40$ higher

for the mobos, you can add microcode into the bios, such as wc621d8a2t,or c621 for amazon
by the way,can ql2k work on asus dominus extreme?I think it has a high tdc,and it can support w3175x as well
