Good news!
I managed to make it run! (with 1 CPU for now, as I have no second DIMM currently).
I used tftpd64 to run a DHCP server on my Windows machine. IPMI was accessible at LAN1 port.

Then I updated BIOS up to version 3.0a, and my machine posted successfully with one 5218 ES (QQ8M) CPU.

So it is confirmed that X11DAI-N supports Cascade Lake ES CPUs (at least one of them).

Hope that this information will be useful for someone here.
I will post some updates when extra memory arrives and I will populate the second CPU slot.
So now I have a fully loaded machine with 2nd socket populated, which works really fine.

Consult with this page http://www.cpu-world.com/Related_CPUs/Socket 2011-3_Haswell.html

Xeon E5-2670 v3 QS QFS0 and an Intel Xeon E5-2685 v3 QS QGJK
Xeon E5-2685 v3 12 / 12 2.6 GHz 3.3 GHz 30 MB 2 120W QS QGJK
Xeon E5-2670 v3 12 / 24 2.3 GHz 3.1 GHz 30 MB 2 120W Stepping M0 QS

Both CPU are QS, should be able to do all-core-turbo , take your choice.

Another choice is this CPU around $250
Intel Xeon E5-4667 v3 QS QH9C 2GHz 16C LGA2011-3 C612 X99 Same as E5-2698 v3 | eBay

I seen this CPU below $250 before.
Keep search for it in the future. At $271.00, this listing is been around for a while.

I happened to have this CPU , it is doing 16c/32T @ 2.9ghz, motherboard is Asrock x99 ws.

I would not buy ES chip now, only QS or better version, because hardware or software of early ES version may not be around in the future.

Example, motherboard bios update ( you need newer feature like nvme support ) may render your ES cpu useless.
Vmware dropping cpu support for older cpu.
I purchased the unreleased Intel ES Xeon 2693 v3 (12 cores/24 threads). Very happy with my purchase (~190 dollars). Works perfectly with my Asus X99-S.

Some benchmark screenshots of the cpu :

Whats the best, I mean easiest to setup, dual cpu motherboard for Intel scalable ES cpu's? There are some really nice prices on Ebay for ES cpu's.

Will be using it as a Ubuntu/ Win10 workstation not a server but I would be ok with no onboard sound since I have a couple of good sound cards I can use.

EDIT:
After doing a bit of research it seems the Supermicro X11DPH-T seems to be the board with the best compatability with ES cpu's.

Guys, what's the consensus on ES/QS Xeon Gold/Platinum processors? I'm running pair of 2683v3, but thinking of reducing footprint. With 2011-3 it works great for me. Even with Turbo Unlock. Should I look into newer Xeons or hold off a bit?

Hi everyone, new to the ES/QS stuff. I've poked through this large thread here and there while looking up various procs and I see a lot have ordered from icomputer_parts_international on Ebay. These 2 here I was looking at:

Intel Xeon E5-2695 v3 QS QG7R QGN4 2.3GHz 14C LGA2011-3 C612 X99 same as SR1XG ! | eBay

and

Intel Xeon E5-2690 v3 QS QFRX QGNY 2.6GHz 12C LGA2011-3 for C612 X99 i7-6950X | eBay

They both show 2 different revisions, 1 is M0 the other is R2 if you look through the pics, but the 2695 says it's the same as SR1XG which is the consumer version, right?

If it still says ES than its not the same as SR1XG and its not a QS either - its only a later ES. Might be ok nevertheless, on v3 the usual boards were not too picky iirc

wrong;)

Ok, so I guess this is what's more important?

"identify a QS v3: on CPU-Z screenshot there is stepping 2 and a revision showing."

Couple questions with my first ES build.

1. Is it possible to tell the BIOS version from markings on the motherboard?
2. Is it possible to flash a v3.0 Supermicro X11SPM-TF down to 2.x with an ES cpu?
3. Where can I download older bios files for Supermicro Motherboards? Specifically looking for the last ES supported version (v2.x) for a SuperMicro X11SPM-TF

Downgrading to BIOS 2.1 fix all my problems
Can I ask where you downloaded the older version? Currently scraping the entire supermicro catalog but I do not see the BIOS files directly listed on any of the download pages.

1. i didn't know.
2. i think a 2.1 or 2.1a bios versions is the last version that supports ES versions
3. You can't download them, Supermicro just put the last one. But if you open a case on their support with the S/N of your motherboard you can have the bios version you want (i did that for my X10DRH-CT) and they provide me the bios in under an hour. But i just asked an older bios version because i had issues without detailing which ^^

I just opened a case with support and they apparently do not allow that anymore:

We could not provide any BIOS 2.x. we do not allow customer to downgrade the BIOS 2.0b or earlier.
Does anyone know where I can download the v2.x BIOS for the X11SPM-TF ?

SuperMicro is being of no help to me, so I downloaded all the files from their website including those that were not indexed. Could someone help me figure out what the BIOS versions of all these files are? These are all the files I could find for the X11SPM-TF and X11SPM-TPF.

X11SPM7_622.zip
X11SPM7_B29.zip
X11SPM7_C08.zip
X11SPM8_313.zip
X11SPM8_615.zip
X11SPM9_304.zip
X11SPM9_327.zip
X11SPM9_521.zip

The docs are promising, saying that some of those builds are from 2017/2018 (not sure when v3 first came out?)

Code:
********* BIOS Naming Convention **********

BIOS name : PPPPPSSY.MDD
PPPPP : 5-Bytes for project name
SS : 2-Bytes supplement for PPPPP
Y             : Year, 5 -> 2015, 6-> 2016, 7->2017
MDD           : Month / Date, For months, A -> Oct., B -> Nov., C -> Dec.

E.g. BIOS with the build date:06/22/2017:
        X11SPM-T(P)F-> X11SPM7.622
If these would all be useful to anyone and they have a good way for me to host them all (too large to upload here), I'd be happy to do so.
