I just picked up a E5-2568 V4 QS and have had a few hours to test:

Intel Xeon E5-2658 v4 QS 2.3GHz LGA2011-3 14C Compatible with X99 i7-6850K 6900K

So far everything is working perfectly, I have a VM running without complaints and not a single glitch. Not bad for a $400 cpu though I wish it had higher clocks. 2.5Ghz all cores and the highest I've seen it go is 2.8Ghz.
How does that chip compare to the 2683V3 OEM? I see they're both 14c/28t and roughly the same price

2658 V4 QS is a 2.3Ghz part while the 2683 V3 is a 2Ghz part. The only difference is that 2683's V3 single or dual core turbo boost is 3Ghz whereas the 2658 V4 QS only boosts to 2.8Ghz with one or two cores active. However the base clock should make up for it with the 2658 V4 QS in single threaded applications. I'd assume Cinebench and other benchmarks would give the 2658 V4 QS a slight lead due to Broadwell-EP architecture versus that of Haswell-EP which the 2683 V3 is based off.

Edit: Seems like all cores boosted give 2.5Ghz on both the 2658 V4 QS and on the 2683 V3 so their identical for turbo bins when all cores are active.
That about sums it up! The V4 also gets you a few new features that may help with virtualization a bit and probably uses a few less watts (105W TDP vs 120W). They are pretty close so buying the cheaper one might be the best option unless you specifically need a new feature of the V4.

I should mention I've had my QS CPU running 24/7 since I got it without a hiccup, virtualization works great, uses very little power (whole system idles about 45W, 188W with prime95 running), and only hits about 50C using a Noctua cooler

Anybody with a 2667 v3 QEYA ES ?

I'm looking for a turbo bins info table.

AIDA64's CPU information module is simply the best tool for the multicore Xeon ES IMHO

I really wish every ebay seller would post a screenshot of this:
I just acquired a steady supply of ES v3's and had a few posted on eBay. I've been using CPU-Z and HWimonitor but I really like how this one provides a turbo max multiplier..

If only you knew someone with a mountain of different CPUs that had two of each installed in nodes right now running benchmarks... :)

I was thinking of starting a thread like that.
Actually two threads.

One to create a turbo bins database for the Xeon ES.
And one with a few benchmarks to create a performance database for the Xeon ES.

Its nice but I don't think the sellers want to pay for it ;)
So you looking for screenshots or values?

I'm contemplating a purchase.
I'm looking to build a second rig based on the Asus Z10PE-D8 WS for Adobe ( Photoshop CC 2017, After Effects CC 2017, Premiere CC 2017 ), FLAC "multi-core" encoding ( dbPowerAmp, uses up to 16 cores to encode 16 tracks at a time ) and maybe some gaming ( BattleField 4, BattleField 1, Rocket League [lol], Rainbow Six: Siege ).
Photoshop and After Effects and the games of course don't utilize plenty of cores/threads, so I'm looking for a decent core count while maintaining high clocks for Photoshop & gaming.

The games I'm after are usually utilizing 3-4 cores, so my best bet would be a CPU that has the fastest 3-4 core turbo, while having a decent core count ( 8, 10, 12 ).

Do you have a 2667 v3 QEYA ? If yes, can you please give me an AIDA64 screenshot like the one I posted ? ( I have a volume license key to share with you so you don't have to purchase AIDA )

Well I wouldn't mind if it was in a 1P X99 configuration just comparing typical V3/V4 ES's and QS's compared to the Haswell-E and Broadwell-E lineup for LGA2011-3.
Yea... Harder to do UP v. DP :)

Finished the E5-2658 v4 runs. Added to Monero thread but did not get a chance to compile others before travel.

The m.2 slot on the D16 WS is half-speed.
Don't hope to max out a Samsung 960 Evo / Pro.

If you are looking for the best possible m.2 performance while having a workstation layout and usage, go for the D8 WS.
Thank you for the tip! I'll get the D8 WS

Guys, I will be getting a E5 2690 V4 QHV5 to run at 3.0 all cores. The thing is that I have here 2 mobos, one is a X99 SOC-CHAMPION and the other is a X99 Deluxe. Those mobos will run this processor fine? thanks guys

I am no expert, but from what I have read neither will work.
Asrock and MSI, if they have the latest bios, are the best for ES V4 cpus. Not many other boards work with an ES V4 at all, even with an up to date bios.
Most boards will work with an ES V3 so you might want to look at those if you stick with Gigabyte.
Either that or you need an ES V4 that has a retail stepping, and even then I'm not 100% sure it will work perfectly.

Well, that got me. I was thinking one of them would work, but well... So, there is another v3 processor with a decent frequency (2.8+) staying at the 600$ budget? I really want one of those for my editing machine, but I do alot of gaming too and I don't want to bottleneck the 1080 I got here aswell. thx guys

That's funny because I would think in Cinebench the v3 would have the means to beat the v4 and haven't seen to the contrary yet.

But the V3 has the possibility to boost all cores to 3.0GHz. If the V4 can do that as well then fair enough.
