Hi Guys, New here and looking for some advice please!,
I have Asus Rampage V Extreme with BIOS 3301 Mod. I want to buy Xeon 2698 ES V4 or Xeon 2686 QS V3. Which one will work on my motherboard ??? Did I need to change it for Asrock X99 to use Xeon V4 CPUs ?

I'd recommend the E5-2670 V3. It's a Stepping 1 (pre-QS) Haswell-EP processor at a greatly affordable price:

Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 ES LGA2011-3 12C Compatible with X99 i7-5820K 5930K 5960X

There was Stepping 2 QS versions before but I don't see them available anymore. This version should be compatible with most of the bioses on the X99-UD4P and the seller has the compatibility list including the X99 series in the description. V3 ES's are largely compatible with X99 motherboards unlike V4 ES Xeons which require specific steppings/revisions and motherboards.
Thanks dude...... much appreciated, i may however have managed an even better deal with the said mobo , a retail 5820K and 16gb ddr4 with a free case flung in for a very decent price!!

Hi guys,

We are thinking of upgrading our render farm (using 3dsmax and Vray) and we are thinking of doing it through the use of ES CPUs.

I was thinking of getting either :
For pure performances, the 2683 will be better, but what revision will be the most stable?

I'm not used to the revisions type of ES CPU, can anyone recommend one CPU over another?
I was thinking of getting the ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS or the ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS. Probably the D16 as it's newer?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Nanotech,
Thanks for your reply, but I'm looking at the V4 and not the V3 versions.
How good or bad is the QHUY revision?

Thanks for your help, appreciate it!

If you are doing an upgrade for something work related I would suggest not using ES processors. In some cases features my not be enabled or work correctly in ES chips. It's hit and miss with this and would take a fair amount of research to confirm what functions are disabled in certain ES chips, but don't risk it for work related things.

Unless the ES chips in question have a stepping that is the same as release chips, but these will most likely cost way more. Go with retail for work.

The ones that you linked are A1 stepping... there is a reason he is asking only $345 per, odd's are they will not work or require a very early BIOS which may not support all features on a retail MB.

Thanks for your feedback Nanotech.
We will get a couple to build a node and see if it works as expected, if it does, we might build another 9 node or so.
I can let you guys know how we do if it's something you're interested in.

Cheers

it will be slower in single threaded applications but faster in multi-threaded applications. Here's an example using Geekbench:

For EVGA you should probably look for a QS sample for best compatibility or a production sample.

In sintetic benchmarks 2698 V4 is about 48 % faster. I am asking in real apps ???

Hi guys,

We are thinking of upgrading our render farm (using 3dsmax and Vray) and we are thinking of doing it through the use of ES CPUs.

I was thinking of getting either :
there are 2 version of 2690V4, QH2M turbo all core 2500MHz (1600cb) and QHV5 3000MHz (2100cb). with same price and speed I suggest 2683 V3 oem instead of QH2M.

Hi everyone!

I started mounting my new rig with Asus Z10PE D16 WS, double E5-2683 V3... First problem : I thought the Asus MB could accept non-ECC RAM, it looks like it's not the case, I'm stuck with B1 QCode at booting. My RAM is G.Skill RipJaws 4 - F4-2400C15Q. Even with only 1 stick in I can't boot. Normal? Should I buy ECC RAM (must I?)...?

The CPUs don't share memory, hence one stick won't boot two CPUs. This should be in your Asus manual.

I'm looking for a CPU for workstation/gaming/development/compression use. What do people think about the 2689 V4 QK7Z ?
