Don't know why that is. :p But I like it :p
Will try to overclock those puppy’s when my build is done.
And going to try to reach 4500 Points.

Anyone Know a good gaming ES CPU X99?
Need a high GHz CPU for gaming. ( Don’t know if I can game on a Max 2.5 GHz CPU )
Depends on the game, there are games using only one core or max. 4 cores.
there are games who scaling up to all cores, but rare.
If u compare the clk of AMD cpu INTEL u should know the InstructionsPerClock value.
Most Intel cpu at 3ghz is as fast a AMD at 4ghz.

I just sold my I7 5960X so I could buy dual E5 2698 V4 So I need a replacement cpu for my rampage extreme.
Also for after effects ( effects ) most of them use speed instead of cores to calculate.

You should totally use this after effects benchmark project, I would die to see how fast your setup will render it 40 cores!, I have the 2690v4 14 core, and its amazing for after effects, kills my 5960x

Adobe 2014 after effcts has multiprocesing
adobe 2015 hasn't so its shit with high core systems

Also read the comments to see how fast other uses renderd the project with their systems

Could I ask for some assistance please? I have an Asus Deluxe X99 and was wonder which CPU to chose out of E5-2650 V3 ES or E5-2658V3 ES. I am stumped and cannot decide even though they are both around the same price point. Will I miss much from 2 core difference? HELP!!!!

Asus x99's don't support ES cpu's, I'm 99% sure that those cpus won't work.

And i'd get the one with the most amount of cores as they are clocked the same

I wonder how fast that would take on the Quad CPU system... to bad I need adobe aftereffects to run that :(

Have checked with vendor for compatibility on 2658v3 and they state it does work, know v4 do not

someone in the comments had a 4770k these were his times
9 min 40 sec. Multiprocessing OFF
8 min 57 sec. Multiprocessing ON

My old fx 8350 Did in 10mins

My 2690v4 does it in 2 min 30 sec. Multiprocessing ON (very happy)

(turbos to 3 ghz on all cores which is why it probably does so well) But i was debating myself weather I should get the 20 core lmao (slower clock speed though)

I do a very crude calculation on core count and clock speed, I gave my 2690v4 a score of 42.0 (14 x 3.0 = 42)
and a buddy of mine has a 18 core with a all core turbo of 2.3 ghz which has a score of 41.2 (18 x 2.3), My 14 core just scores higher in cinebench aswell so my score system is somewhat a good indication of how fast your cpu will be in multi threaded applications

I was running in to this issue on my consolidated build. I could easily run both my wife's and my machine along with the media server and nas off a E5-2676 V3 ES but it would max out at around 2.8ghz on multiple cores. These ES Xeon CPU's are great and if your game uses multiple cores well it should run well.

We both play world of warcraft and it is single thread limited. On my GTX1080, with everything maxed (settings set to 10 of 10). I was getting 25-35fps in areas that were very crowded (invasions) and 300fps indoors. It was maxing out one core. My wifes GTX 970 was also getting the same low numbers in the same areas and topped out closer to 200fps indoors (settings set to 7 out of 10). This tells me I am CPU limited.

I decided to build us a couple workstation/gaming systems and just use the server as a server. I picked up an i5-6500 for her along with 16gb ram and a mATX H170 board. For me I picked up a i5-6600K, 16gb DDR4-3000 ram and a H100i v2 watercooler. I got mine together last night, overclocked it to 4.2ghz and now get minimum 55-60fps in the areas I was seeing 25-35fps. I am putting the wifes system together tonight.

One thing to note is the resolutions you also play at. The higher the resolution the more GPU limited you are. When you start going below 1080P you become more CPU limited. With that being said games usually don't take advantage of higher clock speeds (if overclocked) versus regular stock speeds with few exceptions. For example someone with an E5-2670 can game just as well as a higher-clocked X99 5820K or 5930K in the majority of the situations provided it isn't cpu limited.

If I had the choice between a higher clocked processor and choosing more cores I would definitely choose more cores because that's a better overall option.
Yeah, we play at 2560x1440. Wow has a old engine that really doesn't take advantage of multiple cores so it is easy to be cpu limited. GPU utilization would max out at around 60% on the VM, on the i5 I am seeing 80-90% (still maxing out the single core at 4.2ghz). If their engine used multiple cores better the 2676 would have been great.

Just wanted to join to say thanks for all the great information on this thread. I have been interested in buying a ES Xeon V3 for awhile, but never had the nerve to try it.

I thought I settled on a ES E5 2683 V3 QGN5/QFQK since it has the same stepping as OEM/Retail but only costing 279.

Then I saw all the luck some of you guys are having with the earlier ES E5 2683 V4/2690V4. Seeing as I have a AsRock X99 motherboard, the general consensus seems it should have no problem supporting broadwell-ep es.

Hard decision, the E5 2690 V4 would be perfect for me because all cores turbo to 3.0. The only thing I don't like is from the HWinfo from the seller, uncore speed is stuck at 1.7ghz instead of the core clock speed of 2.0+. Don't know how that would effect performance.

the E5-2690 v4 ES can turbo up one or two cores to 3.0ghz, all cores to 2.5Ghz.
uncore at 1600mhz seems not normal to 12+ core cpu.

I know both are early steppings, but which one is better for E5 V4, A0 or A1?

That will help me make my decision, the 2690V4 is A0, the 2683 V4 is A1.

Thanks

A0 is ES0 higher clock but very early
A1 is ES2, lower clock, better compat. but not same compat.than OEM/retail.

You think I will have issues with an AsRock X99 Extreme 4 if I update BIOS?

Again thanks for the input.

Edit:
According to another seller my board supports it with BIOS 3.0 or above. But the A1 I want to buy, the seller responded it might work.

If you really want to ensure best compatibility then you should still consider the V3 ES/QS Xeons. The V4 Xeons work best with chipsets outside of X99 on LGA2011-3 especially if they are Stepping 0.

You could always check with the person selling the V4 ES whether it will work in your motherboard but you will also need to make sure the motherboard on your system is up to date prior to even purchasing the V4 ES Xeon even if it is compatible (for microcode update).
Yeah I updated my previous post to show my replies from 2 ebay sellers. The first one sells a A0 E5 2683 V4 and replied it will work with BIOS 3.0 or above. But the A1 stepping I want is from another seller and replied to me it might work, it might not. He only told me 100% capabilities goes to Supermicro server boards and ASUS Z10PA-D8. I want to try it but don't want to have a paper weight and piss off the wifey for spending 350 bucks.

I had a v4 ES0 running on ASRock X99E-ITXac, ASRock has the best compatibility on X99 boards for V4 ES.

According to that list it should work!!!! How do you like your mITX AsRock board? I am thinking of downsizing my main PC and going mini.

I did not know there was A1 stepping variances. The E5 2683 V4 I am looking at has different multi on the HWinfo screenshot but also A1. The one I want has QHZE stepping and higher turbo multipliers.

Regardless thanks for all the info and will probably shoot for the V4 and get the BIOS dated for April 2016 since that is the one running on your AsRock X99.

Thanks again.
