Thanks for the answer CookiesLikeWhoa, this helped a lot. My RAM was not registered. I just ordered new one - ECC and registered. Didn't even cost a lot more. Rookie mistake.

I have MSI: X99A Raider (BIOS P.4 or above) and Asrock X99 OC formula.
Both motherboard work with early version of E5 V4 ES chip as well as V3.
I brought the MSI X99 Raider from Fry's electronic for $109.
Asrock X99 OC from Ebay for $160

What's about EVGA x99 classified and V4 es ???
i do not know anyone that has evga, but all sellers describe its boards as comaptible with early V4 ES.
EVGA: X99 Family (all models with BIOS 2.01 or above)

Everybody that have ES V4, please tell us did you find something unusual about this kind of XEON CPU ? I mean something to missing or something to be factory disabled ?

Not all ES CPU are the same so even asking about all "ES V4" it's irrelevant as you may receive a different 'version'. It doesn't matter if it's v1, v2, v3, v4, etc... all ES chips could be missing something or have different configurations than retail.

I got a asrock X99M Killer for 143€ from a outlet, only the blank motherboard, nothing included.
So i asked the asrock technical support where to buy a IO shield for that, i gave the serial# and my
contact data.
Now they have sent me a IO shield for free.

Where did you find the Fry's deal? I have been watching for months and 2011v3 motherboard deals are so rare

Sign up for the Frys email campaign to have them spam you with promo code and ad.

If you do not live near a Frys store, then you watch for the online deal.
I brought a Gigabyte X99 motherboard for similar price, but decided to return it to buy the MSI X99 board for the sake of running V4 ES chip.

Hi Guys,

Xeon Processor E5-2643v2 QS CPU 3.5GHz 6-Core 25M Max 3.8GHz
Xeon Processor E5-2697 v4 ES LGA2011-3 18-Core 2.2GHz Max 2.6GHz
Xeon Processor E5-2697 v2 QS LGA2011 12-Core 2.7Ghz Max 3.0GHz
Xeon Processor E5-2695 V2 QS 2.4Ghz 30MB L3 12-Core Max Turbo 3.2GGhz
Xeon Processor E5-2683 V3 OEM 2.0Ghz 35MB L3 14 Core Max Turbo 3.0Ghz

I am looking for a balance of cores and speed for purely after effects/editing rig.
The problem is it's hard to get >16 cores with above 3.0Ghz.
Based on my research after 16 cores you do not see improvement that much.
After Effects 2014(Allows Multithreading) - 0% improvement after 16 cores

If you find some please let me know and my budget is around $600 for the cpu.
