Hi, this is an amazing thread, thank you for all the info. Could someone confirm whether a W790 board + QYFS (ASUS W790-Ace in this case) will boot with only one RDIMM installed? I only have one stick right now and want to make sure that the CPU and motherboard that I have coming will at least be able to boot lol. Thanks!

Can the official version of W790 also use QYFS or QYFR? I haven't used it myself, but I've only heard that it can be lit up with ES motherboard.

what do you mean with official version ?
ASUS W790 SAGE & Ace work, ASRock WS W790 work,
supermicro W790 not (X13SRA only with BIOS mod)
Dell 5860 not...

but I've only heard that it can be lit up with ES motherboard.

QYFS or QYFR works in any gibabyte C741 motherboard with latest BIOS.
edit: this is not the usual case/the norm of course.

I also have a question: Does the ASUS W790 motherboard have a BIOS lock? I saw on other blogs that they used the ASUS W790 ES motherboard version 1.01 and were able to power on the ES 8480 and overclock. Can the retail version of the ASUS W790 do the same?

It seems to be an overclockable Xeon Scalable processor (not the W9-3495X), because it supports Optane Persistent Memory.

QDF does not hint to any stage of ES, can be ES0 or QS.
this stepping E2 has still no Brand string ("0000" instead) - we can't guess about a target SKU at that stage.
it is not unusual that ES have more feature enabled than later prod.units.
If it runs on a W790 motherboard the bad news is no W790 BIOS supports PMEM (why it should)
and no C741 motherboard support overclocking ( you have to mod. BIOS and try XTU )

sorry, i don't see that. max. package is 378Watts and normal for a 56 core but 56 cores @3900mhz will need over 500Watts.

it is indeed a special one, talks DMI3 and DMI4 like SPR-SP D0s, runs on W790 and C741 motherboards.

I am interested that why SPR has 12 steps. Are D0 steps ES (like QYFS) have some major bug?or just the Cost or Yield problem

If I remember correctly, they change the memory controller, therefore that step4 and above 4th gen xeon support PMem 300 at C741. However, D0 support PMem 300 indeed, but must be in es C741 chipset.

I saw a work in Chinese Internet,that is QYFS and supermicro X13SET-G and I would like copy it,because X13SET is only 2000CNY in goolfish.and the seller tell me his good could support SPR ES.I could only find another motherboard which is double price at least.And Pmem 300 series is avaliable.Is this work good?

and could 8*256Pmem + 8*16rdimm work,I heard some limit of RAM between Pmem,about their size,I mean if it must work when special rate,like 1:8, 1:16.

I don't know if you request my services or not on Goolfish, but QYFS will only functioning with PMem 300 modules under es chipset. However, even PMem 300 series, it must follow 1:4, 1:8, 1:16 ratio. If you want to use memory mode in advance, the ratio between RDIMM and PMem must be 1:4 or 1:8.

The most interesting part is that in the latest R12 BIOS (the latest BIOS I have tested), Gigabyte (MS03-Ce0) did not remove the support for PMEM in the BIOS， which means that users can still use the fourth generation along with PMEM .

But only AD mode left in the BIOS configuration(s). I haven't try to use ipmctl to configure memory mode in the OS.

Does anyone here know if a QYFS works in a 06CX9 motherboard from the Dell Precision 7960? I bought a QYFS for cheap and the 06CX9 looks pretty promising for its price but it officially does not support the QYFS

yes i know. does not work.
there is no way to modify BIOS because Intel BIOS guard is running.

the Dell Precision 7960 06CX9 motherboard needs custom case, custom Power supply, custom FANs,
custom Front Panel (the Embed Controller is on it like at 7820/7920s)

I already have all of this figured out, thats not the issue. I would have put it in a old server chassis that i have laying around. It would need some modifying but that aint the issue. Sad that there is no way to get it working

not tried.
but HPs BIOS also can't be modded, but this is required on actual BIOS to make SPR-SP D0 work(except ASUS/ASRock)
you need then in any case a early or Test/Debug BIOS.
