I have a Supermicro 4028 ES CPU worked with it but it did not work on a Supermicro 4029

So not all motherboards support them. There must be guide or something to show if the motherboard will accept them?

i am not talking about (bad) ES.
AGAIN:
you should look out for a 18 core E5-2695 v4(not QS/ES), with same or more performance as a 20 core ES2.
they go from $200 - $250 at ebay, sellers form north america too.
the QS is not much cheaper, goes from $180 plus ship&fees.

why should a E5-2695 v4 production unit not work ? QS is same except one bit(ES bit is set)

It was ES not QS that I tried

ES says nothing. ES0,ES1,ES2 ? some ES2 work, some not. just a different BIOS and the ESx stops working.

if the matching production unit works, yes. QS and PRD share same stepping&microcode.
important to know is: ES with PRE production microcode do not get any updates after launch of the CPU series.
bugs and errata are not corrected, vulnerabilities stay unresolved.

to be clear ! even QS/PRD V4 don't work with old BIOS !

Then I found this model: PXE1610CDN described in manual which is available on the Asus C621E-SAGE.
On infineon site I found information that PXE1610 can be programmed by PowIRCenter:

unfortunaly not:
PowIRCenter is for Infineon IR parts, PXE1610 is Primarion. Primarion was bought by Infineon. PXE parts can be programmed with PowerCode which requires a different USB dongle. can't buy this dongle anywhere so far.
The Dongle is a HID Device and uses a C8051F320, the Vendor/Device ID is VID_16C0&PID_06ED

I am trying to upgrade an HP Z6 G4 workstation with a QQ8M CPU.

Vendor stated compatible with latest bios, so I upgraded the bios.

I am getting no display and an audible error (three long/two short - memory initialization failure). I tried replacing the DDR4 2400 with DDR4 2666 memory, but no go.

Does anyone have experience with this motherboard/CPU? Alternatively, does anyone have a reco for a low cost mobo known to work with this CPU?

The latest bios (P60_0278) doesn't support your CPU (CPUID 50655).

I am trying to upgrade an HP Z6 G4 workstation with a QQ8M CPU

this CPU is stepping A0 cpuid 50655
all BIOS after 2.21 lacks this microcode.

Scouring the internet for the 2.21 bios as we speak. However, having owned a lot of HP gear, I am not particularly confident that a bios downgrade will be possible.

I have the bios 2.21, I can send it to you.

The bios rollback was surprisingly straightforward and the workstation recognized the new processor straightaway.

I have just bought a Project Olympus Microsoft board, presumably from Azure. From asking around on reddit it appears that these boards are fine with ES CPUs? Can anyone here confirm?

And how well would a single or dual Intel Xeon Gold 5218 ES QQ8M CPUs work in this motherboard, in a server application? Will virtualization work fine with QQ8M?

QQ8M is 2ng gen scalable. this board has old BIOS thought.

Yes it's second gen. What do you mean the board has old BIOS? Project Olympus supports second gen as well?
