$49 OBO + US S/H Advantech M.2 480GB Internal SSD - SQF-CM8V4-480G

Pardon the interruption...

Extended temperature industrial 2280 M2 SSD PCIe Gen 3 with heatsink- I wonder how low they would go. My offer at 35 each for 4 was rejected.

Heres a link to the PDF datasheets, its in the first entry "User Manual for SQFlash 920 Series"

The listing picture serial corresponds to "SQF 920 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD (OPAL) 480G 3D TLC (BiCS3) (-40~85°C)"
Mine got delivered today. I'll post more once I get home.
Better late than never.
Drives looked brand new and smart also shows they are brand new.
These drives were EOL'd around 5/26/2025, with final shipments on 11/30/2025.
The final firmware available for these drives is ECFM12A7. Mine both came with ECFM12A5

Performance is pretty much where I expected it to be.
Please keep in mind that these were passed through to a VM.
Read: SEQ1M = 1712.92, SEQ128K Q32T1 = 3455.21, RND4K Q32T1 = 896.61, RND4K Q1T1 = 30.50
Write: SEQ1M = 635.90, SEQ128K Q32T1 = 2264.84, RND4K Q32T1 = 999.58, RND4K Q1T1 =92.50

Not bad considering our current situation with prices.

I landed on this by clicking on the other Page by Accident.

Price is similar but it IS a M.2 Drive.

Note that it's 2280 and unsure about how Enterprise/etc.

Seems to be 800TBW for a 2TB Drive so not quite enterprise I guess.

Prices are crazy regardless  .

If you Google the 0YTYK1 part number then it comes up with a bunch of etailers that list it as compatible with a long list of Dell laptops.

It's for consumers with 800TBW. Was going to use it for storing LLMs. Reading mainly but not for this price eith such shipping

Yeah, I am lucky to have "stocked" up on SSDs before (1.92TB mainly, with some 3.84TB and 960GB as well), although mainly SATA, some SAS and still a few NVMe.

Right now for some Tests I used the 1.92TB Storage locally, but going forward I might need to do, both for Performance and Cost, to have it centralized on some kind on NAS, probably served over NFS (read-only) over 10gbps or 40gbps NICs. Several Stripes of Mirror will have much better Performance than single Mirror after all.

I have quite a few 3.84 sata ssds which will go to my backup nas. I never bothered with nvmes though so i am paying the price now but it's ok :)

I use nvme for mainly read only but fast storage. I do not run vms so sata is fine.

I have always had a nas for my bulk storage that uses spinners. 6x3tb raidz2, feel free to laugh but my storage needs are limited). You can not saturate 10G with that but you can with mirrors.

Spinners are cheaper than ssds too.

Yeah I also have 8 x 6TB HDDs + 2 x 500GB Special VDEV + 750GB Optane SLOG + L2ARC on some shared Storage for Docker Containers, apt-cacher-ng, DNF Proxy and some locally mirrored Packages using dnf-reposync / debmirror.

But that's nowhere near the read speed required for LLM to work effectively when switching Models ;) .

That is exactly why i am looking for a large nvme. It can be a consumer one since it will be mainly reads but it is faster than sata when switching large models. Qwen3.6-27B Q4 for example is fine for sata ssds but large models (60GB) can take 2minutes to load.

Nvme pcie4 is 7000MB/s, SATA SSD is 600 :-(

Yes, there is overhead so those numbers are not achievable but still...

Do consider some ancient AIC SSDs like Samsung PM1725/1725a, or HGST SN260. They are PCIe 3 but because AIC is 8 lanes, their specs shows 6GB/s reads, and they will be way cheaper on ebay than anything PCIe 4.
