Enterprise SSD "small deals"

Probably… 4-5 years ago On eBay? Someone really wanted them gone, and I bought like 8x of them.

Oh those Times surely are gone for a while now .

With the current Prices I might just buy 2.5'' SAS HDDs, should I need more storage. The Price Difference is just MASSIVE now between used SSD and used HDD .

I still have quite a lot of non-enterprise Crucial MX500 1TB/2TB/4TB SSDs, not put into operation yet, so those will just be used with Static Content Files (NAS) that need SSD Speed. Most of the Stuff will go to spinning HDD probably with a ZFS Special VDEV on SSD Backend.

Then I will need to go forward with my project with 3 x Supermicro SC-216 Chassis and many 1.92TB SSDs / some 3.84TB SSDs and start building those up finally.

Unless you need massive iops, what you can always do is sell your smaller SSDs and buy larger ones. That operation is price insensitive.

Uh ? How exactly does that increase the overall Capacity, if SSD aren't getting any cheaper ?

Doesn’t increase capacity but frees up some ports, lowers power consumption, avoids having to do unnecessary RAID, less controllers = less component that can fail. Plus you can probably slightly upgrade in the process in term of generations.

Not sure if it's worth the Time to just juggle around plus the potential Risk something goes wrong. I sell also other Stuff and it takes Time to manage everything, setup Announces, Communication with potential Buyers, Testing, Packacing, etc .

I agree on the lower power consumption and free some ports, I don't have hardware RAID, I can just use a LSI 9305-24i Controller if I wanted to.
