$49 OBO + US S/H Advantech M.2 480GB Internal SSD - SQF-CM8V4-480G

Pardon the interruption...

Extended temperature industrial 2280 M2 SSD PCIe Gen 3 with heatsink- I wonder how low they would go. My offer at 35 each for 4 was rejected.

Heres a link to the PDF datasheets, its in the first entry "User Manual for SQFlash 920 Series"

The listing picture serial corresponds to "SQF 920 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD (OPAL) 480G 3D TLC (BiCS3) (-40~85°C)"

AI "bubble" starting to crack? Still more expensive than a year ago, but...

ssd are less affected, and Ai don't need Gen4 QLC crap.
In Store Pickup Only = two or three in stock from customer returns ?
Sure...but...what it means is that nobody's buying this crap at these prices.

p.s. Microcenter does "store pickup only" for lots of things. They want that foot traffic... It may/may not mean anything. I still wouldn't buy it at this price, this was like $150 a year ago.

Don't think so (despite yesterday's market movement). For that hyperscalers and AI companies would have to cancel their orders, that would make news. SSD manufacturers are reporting multi year contracts. So right now the AI demand appears locked in to me.

I watch ebay closely and auctions are now settling at absurd levels. Recent examples:

4x PM1643a 7.68TB $2850 - eg $712 per drive

Intel P4510 8TB $1025

Micron 9300 3.84TB $410

Samsung pm9a3 7.68 TB $750

Apart from the last one this is all fairly old flash.

[edit] corrected links as ebay redirected me away from the original auction

I know...my ancient Sandisk Fusion IO cards don't seem all that ancient (or useless) anymore. Especially since the drivers got ported to Linux (and they still work). The cards are getting a workout in my Truenas servers!

I mean...6.4TB flash bought for $125/ea...I'm sure the seller is kinda regretting it now...

Where'd you get 6.4s for $125ea? I have a ton of 3.2s lying around, only a few in use right now. I also have a bucket of 1.2TB ioDrive IIs.

Such a great product, really loved working for Fusion-io, sad WD killed the products.

Crazy, I remember buying two p4510s still new a year or so ago for 300 bucks each.

Probably… 4-5 years ago On eBay? Someone really wanted them gone, and I bought like 8x of them.

p.s. Now, my frankenstein Chenbro servers with the huge X9DRX motherboards crammed in might make sense... :) Lots of pci-e slots...

I already had two more of the 6.4TB Fusion IO cards, for a total of ten. Each Chenbro chassis has:

- two Mellanox Connectx-3 40/56gb cards
- two Adaptec 81650zq RAID cards with BBUs
- 5x Fusion IO cards.

Each chassis is setup in two "banks" with each bank having:
- 24x LFF drives
- 8x SSDs (under the motherboard tray), setup as RAID10 for the Adaptec 81605 SSD cache
- One Connectx-3
- One Adaptec 81605
- two Fusion IO cards for "hot data".

Each bank is essentially an NFS target (with ~0.5PB of spinning rust backed by 1TB of SSD cache and ~13TB of Fusion IO flash for hot data), with specific IP addresses, routes etc and hosts a Postgres DB volume. The two chassis/four banks combine together into a massive ~2PB distributed volume with ~200gbps of overall (potential) throughput. This is the backend storage for Postgres.

Postgres itself runs on two 32 core/1TB RAM/ea servers (X10DRU based with e5-2697a v4 CPUs).

Unless you need massive iops, what you can always do is sell your smaller SSDs and buy larger ones. That operation is price insensitive.

Doesn’t increase capacity but frees up some ports, lowers power consumption, avoids having to do unnecessary RAID, less controllers = less component that can fail. Plus you can probably slightly upgrade in the process in term of generations.

A house of cards topples over if the Anthropic + OpenAI IPOs tank. They've running out of private capital to light on fire so now they're coming for our 401k plans. AI demand isn't locked when your customer goes bankrupt because their customer went bankrupt. Fingers crossed both IPOs leave a trail of tears (no pity here). OpenAI's collapse would likely spell the end of Oracle, too, given their debt load. Good riddance to the entire charade.
