Hi everyone, thought I would share a good deal that I came across recently if you are looking for a poe switch. I needed 8 ports for some security cams, and this was perfect.

Newegg is selling it for $180: EnGenius EGS5110P 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ (802.3af/at) Smart Switch with 2 SFP Ports - Newegg.com
  • 8 Gigabit PoE+ Ethernet Ports & 2 SFP Ports
  • IEEE 802.3af/at Support on All Ports
  • 130W PoE Budget
  • 802.1Q VLAN & Port-base VLAN
  • Bandwidth Control and Storm Control
  • Port Trunking & Port Mirroring
Notice the 130 watt total poe power. Pretty good compared to some I've seen. To get more, the price seems to double. Only issue appears to be a loud 40mm fan which I'm not sure I can get away from anyway as the power supply is built-in.

The deal I found was via Ebay. Used the make an offer and shot over $100 (w/$28 for shipping). Seller auto-accepted - may be able to get this for less even.

Seller appears to be the Ubiquiti eBay account, and the item ships from Latvia so worst cast scenario it ships with the wrong electrical plug. Also, I forgot to try it, but you may be able to use the $15 off $100 ebay promo C15FATHERSDAY when checking out to get it for even less.

On a closely related note I have one of these on order:

ZyXEL GS1900-8HP Managed 8 Port PoE+ Web Managed Switch - Newegg.com

$128 new from Newegg and Amazon (at this writing). s/b here in a day or so. On the plus side it's fanless. On the minus side it's a lower 70 watt budget, a newish model without much of a track record. The power is plenty for me, nothing I'm driving takes over 7 watts so I could load up all 8 ports and still have some headroom.

If I find anything particularly noteworthy, positive or negative, I'll post a followup, but I don't tend to use many managed switch features beyond LACP and port-based vlans so I'm probably not the guy for an in-depth feature review.

I like my Zyxel routers, I got a switch too but haven't played with it yet. Their GUI is rather nice IMHO :)

Just closed on a deal for an Engenius EGS2110P for $100.

Looks like the bigger brother (more POE under hood) is a good deal right now (69.99 1 bid) as well if it goes for the right price...

EnGenius EGS5110P 8 Port Gigabit Poe Smart Switch with 2 Gigabit SFP Rackmount | eBay

I wanted small footprint in my office and I only intend to power two POE devices (7960 cisco voip and cisco AP) that is w/in the POE budget of the EGS2110P. Hello retiring a 24 port 10/100 3750 POE switch that is buggin' me in my office.

LOL, same guy I got mine from...he must be sittin on a few.

EnGenius EGS2108P 8 Port Gigabit Smart Switch w 4 Port Poe 61 6W Budget | eBay

I have a couple Netgear GS110TP that are pretty similar. Lifetime warranty is nice, also has an undocumented ciscoish telnet interface on tcp 60000.

This thing is a POS, sonofab|tch, should have gone HP Procurve 2520-8G-PoE or 2530-8G-PoE and just boned up...more of a hassle than anything else, POE ports DO NOT seem to work/pwr my devices (1200 cisco Ap and 7960 voip ph). Having a helluva time getting tagged ports to play nice and pass my vlan's as well from my procurve. Garbage!

I'll beat on it for a bit and see if I change my mind but NOT impressed so far. If the POE functionality does not work it's pretty much a show-stopper for me to begin with. 16 watts max per port...dunno fi i am exceeding that...off to RTFM...YEA!!!story of my life.

SMFH :-(

Yessir, just researhed this as well early this morning, tied the crossover cable trick, no luv.

Ordered up a Procurve 2520-8G, hopefully this does the trick w/ a cross-over cable otherwise I am hunting down new voip phones (I head the 7941G/7961G use 802.3af std and not inline-prw/pre-std garbage.
