Hello all I have done research and here I am...

I have ASRock D1541DU_2T8R, wish it was _208R but the board came with a bunch of free ram and shipping for a few bucks north of $200. It was a steal IMO.

I have an optiplex 7090 w/ 16GB RAM and i5-11500.

Unless I am mistaken I can use LSI HBA's to have storage drives show up on 2 systems simultaneously? Allowing it to be apart of both my Asrock's unraid pool and the i5-11500 plex transcoding pool?

Please let me know if I am mistaken....
but if not, how do I make use of the onboard LSI3008 ?
Do I simply plug 2 miniSAS into the HP 24 Port hba expander?
HP 468406-B21 HP 3GB 24BAY SAS EXPANDER CARD

Or will those 2 miniSAS from LSI3008 not give me the full bandwidth?
Would it be better to get a LSI9308-16I ? and have it connected to the HBA on the i5-11500?

Or will my LSI3008 suffice for up to 15 drives in a rosewill4500, but if I am going to have 2x Rosewill 4500, might as well use the LSI9308-16I to make full use of ports on the plex pool and then use the onboard LSI3008 with same case drives?

I am hoping I can use the PCIE4.0X16or 3.0x16 onboard the optiplex 7090 sff for the 24 port HBA for now, but eventually grab a better board for a workstation/server so I can add 10gb etc

Thanks for read and help!

For 400/20 that J4125 is plenty.

I think getting the RMA is good too.

is worth making that RMA, once return, my services / nas host on my network?
i was considering hosting a blog and would then want to use snort or suricata and have signficantly less hit to speed with internet from the A1SRI-C2758F.....j4125 china box slows to crawl with and ids/ips and vpn makes cpu high with 2 users
i was thinking maybe I can take the J4125 and put it in a a different board and have it be a NAS/Plextrasncoder, and work with that ?

thanks for reply

I will chime in a bit here. I do have the A1SRI-C2758F board and it did have to go back for warranty about 6 months ago. I did the advance RMA with the credit card deposit and it was completely painless, no questions asked. I use it for basic Internet routing and OpenVPN on a 1000/1000 FTTH connection and it's always been great. Definitely do the warranty claim.

I have seen it used in a ZFS application with a SAS HBA and it works fine. I don't recommend use as a hypervisor or heavy compute.

Thank you for chiming in! I had bought it with the intention of ensuring wirespeed or near wirespeed openvpn, and I thought at 250 it was a steal ready to go in a box and all. Hell, the j4125 box sells for like 150ish nowdays.
