@ca3y6

How does it look in Terms of Firmware Versions ?

For Samsung I could see that some Firmware is available in the UploadYourFWStuff "Dropbox".

MPPA7B5Q
MPPAAB5Q

What about the Firmware for that Netapp Toshiba Drive (Netapp X357A) ? Not sure where / if we can download that (probably not).

NA54 was the latest Firmware flashed on the other Offer from US (and the Seller can Format/Convert to 512b Sector if requested to).

From the photos it looks like they are Netapp drives. But I have no way to tell what firmware they currently run. You can only run a netapp firmware on a netapp drive, as far as I am aware.

The toshiba ones look like they're X356A. Latest firmware for those should be NA04 or NA05 depending on which specific model they are.

X356A-R6 to be exact :)

Very weird because the same Toshiba Model Number SDFAM00NHA01 / PX05SRB384 maps to both X356A-R6 and X357A.

And I got the X357A from the Offer in the US.

EDIT 1: and just to make it even more confusing Netapp/IBM is also marketing the Samsung Drive as a X357A (on top of the Toshiba that I got from the US).

Which means that Netapp/IBM is likely using Toshiba/Samsung as an Equivalent Part Number (AKA Second-Source).

I have NA55 on my PM1643 from another deal. But I have no idea how to dump that firmware from the drive (if anyone needs/wants it).

Here the Offer concerns a PM1633a which is a different Drive.

EDIT 1: I also don't know if/how you could dump your existing Firmware ... I checked briefly for hdparm and sdparm but found nothing at all :( .

I asked the seller and he responded with:
Firmware: NA04
Block size=512

Is NA04 any good?

I asked him but he did NOT reply yet :rolleyes: .

Is that for the Samsung or the Toshiba ? Netapp uses the same P/N and Firmware Version Naming for both Samsung and Toshiba ...

Firmware: NA04
Block size=512

Is NA04 any good?
According to one Post above NA04 or NA05 should be latest.

I don't know if a more updated document exists.

He just replied to me with some Screenshots as well.

How is it possible that it has 50-60% Health and 0 Bytes Written ? There might be some SMART Reset involved here ...

EDIT 1: I can also confirm from his Screenshot NA04 and 512b for the Toshiba which registers as X356. Apparently the Samsung (only 1 Piece available) is X357 with Firmware NA54 and again 512b

EDIT 2: some uncorrected read & write Errors in the Samsung SMART Data. The one from Toshiba that he sent me registered as "PERFECT" (57% Health). Power on Time of 3'765'880. Not sure what the Unit is.

Hours: 3'765'880/365/24 -> 430 Years -> NO
Minutes: 3'765'880/365/24/60 = 7.2 Years -> more likely :)

@luckylinux Where did you get the 0 bytes written info from?
1749214843516.png

But maybe since it's a Netapp branded Drive it's just failing to "map" correctly into the Fields.

1749214895270.png

Assuming SC30_000C is the Total Bytes Written:

527'812'825'972'747 Bytes / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 ~ 480 TB which seems very low for such a Drive

I think that this is a Drive rated at 1DWP, so 1 x 3.8 TB/Day * 365 Days/Year * 5 Years Warranty ~ 6935 TB

And Health (100% - 57%) of that would be 2982 TB written.

It cannot be "just" write amplification of 6x from 480TB to 2982 TB, can it ? I mean for VM Storage under Proxmox it's not outside of the Realm of Possibilities for sure.

Assuming SC30_000C is the Total LBA Written:

527'812'825'972'747 LBAs * 512 Bytes = 527'812'825'972'747 LBAs * 512 Bytes / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 480 TB * 512 = 245'760 TB which are way too high

Could very well be another Attribute. Or it's more a LBA Counter not Bytes.

There is a higher counter at SC30_0003 though:

Assuming SC30_0003 is the Total Bytes Written:
27'866'022'694'354'944 Bytes / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 ~ 25'344 TB which seems way too high again

Assuming SC30_0011 is the Total LBA Written:

5'554'486'718'208 LBAs * 512 Bytes = 5'554'486'718'208 LBAs * 512 Bytes / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 2586.5 TB

So this seems to be at around 50% Health as said above.

There might another Number though and this is just a coincidence.

I am not sure which drive are we talking about. Those screenshots you posted are not for the toshiba ebay drive. I am probably missing something here.

They are from the Toshiba one. Not sure why you say they are not :rolleyes:.

I also got the Screenshot for the Samsung but that is clearly recognizable as "Samsung" :p
