These CPUs should just work fine on single or dual socket systems so this is an amazing deal. On the other hand, I simply cannot justify spending money on 44 core since I have no need. But at $900 with tax, they are amazing :(

E7 is sadly a different socket than the ordinary two-socket E5 stuff. There is more discussion in this thread https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...e7-8880v3-for-20-on-newegg.22226/#post-207145 Maybe there exists some two socket boards that will take E7 cpus, but most will not.

The result is that E7 cpus tend to sell for a fair bit less than their E5 equivalents even though I'm sure they were much more expensive new (list price for a real E7-8880v4 is about $9000). E.g. I'd picked up some 2GHz 20-core v4 ES chips for $120 a little bit ago -- but these are much nicer chips. I think the only faster E7 v4 chips (the 24/2.2 and 24/2.4) pretty much live only on price lists.

Thanks for the clarification. I was testing the water with the seller and he accepted my low ball offer. Now I have to request a cancel but I am happy to save $600 :)

Are the 20-core v4 chips still available?

The seller I bought the E7 v4 ES 20c/2.0ghz from doesn't have any more available right now, but I privately messaged you an offer on my extras because I upgraded. If you or someone else isn't interested, they'll end up on ebay eventually.

they are cheap because noone can use them because E7 motherboards are as rare as hens teeth.
