My Proxmox server at the moment is a IBM M2 with 1x Xeon E5506

Since this is the load
load average: 0.11, 0.15, 0.14

You think I would have any appreciable gain in power consumption with the L5630?

Do you know the wattage it uses now? I would imagine the l5630 would use less than you have now since you are going from an 80w 45nm CPU to a 40w 32nm CPU.

And actually with those loads I'd expect quite a bit of power savings. The 45nm chips always idle hot and heavy and the 32nm were much better.

If you have a board that supports the newer chips and given how cheap they are on eBay I see no reason to run the older x55xx chips and only the newer x56xx chips.
