Hello,
I'm shopping Dell R820/R830 boxes for a project I have, and these two chips seem to pop up a lot in Dell Servers. (I play on Dell Outlet a lot, for grins)
Trouble I'm having is -- the E5-4655v4 looks like the worst value Xeon ever to me. Am I missing something about it? The old 4650v1 seems to meet or beat it slightly, and it's now wha, 5 years old? Also the price disparity is rather.. hair-raising.. especially for Qty 4.
I feel like I'm missing something about the 4655, or it dropped a "1" on the spec sheet and it's really 18 cores or something...
Thoughts? Since the project can juuuust accept an R820 with the 4650 chips, I may just do that and spend the savings ($5000+!) on RAM and SSD.
Quick comparo here:
