Hi, i'm a very new to crypto currency world. I have invested in workstation to mine monero coin. I have bought dual e5 2696 v3 and e5 2675 v3 for mining, I have tested my 2696 v3 with minergate smart miner. I use all 36 cores but it only gives 400h/s.

Isn't this supposed to be 1500h/s? Or somewhere near this number because I have seen a benchmark posted on this website that even 2683 v3 gives atleast 1000h/s already.

And for the gpu, I use 750 ti. But it is nowhere near 250h/s either.

What am I missing here, or is it windows 10 that gives it such poor performance?

Thanks.

Try using XMR-Stak-CPU for your xeon on windows 10 you can also try xmr-stak-nvidia for the 750ti might give you better results. Also you are probably only going to want to use 22 cores max as for best performance each core needs 2mb of cache and i believe that you only have 45mb cache on the 2696 v3

A few things, first DO NOT USE MINERGATE!!

I know its easy to use but the only thing it's good for is just to give you a bit of an understanding how this whole mining thing works but everybody has issues using it.

Second do not use all your cores.

Cryptonight algo uses about 2 mb per thread and the easy thing to remember is to divide your L3 cache by two to give you an idea how many core to run. Any more than that its starts to swap to ram and that slowns things down to a crawl.

A E5-2696 V3 has 45 mb of L3 cache so 45 divided by two is 22.5 so only use 22 threads total per cpu. And yes you WILL get higher performance with 22 threads than all 36.

Nvidia does not work very well for XMR.

From my notes, I have a single E5-2673 v3
OS is ubuntu with xmr-stak-cpu miner

Miner2 CPU E5-2673 v3 prod , L3 cache 30MB , 15 Threads , BIOS active 9 cores
CPU 599 H/s
AMD ASUS RX 470 539 H/s
Total Power: 237w with RX 470
750Ti 251 H/s ( removed and replaced with RX470 , rebuild OS )

Thanks!!! I just reduced to 22 cores and it seems to jump from 400 to 550 h/s

Anyway this is still far from my expectation, I will change to other software soon.

Just found a forum where people talk about wolf miner, is this as good as XMR-Stak-CPU?

I think Stak is better if you have a low number of machines.

Wolf's will get you 3x what you are getting.

Also, use Linux.

Thank you pyro_ , now I have added pool address, wallet address, and leave the pool password empty.

But I can't find my exe file to run this program.

I try to use only Linux for mining with the miner compiled from source code.

But I also have 3 win7 machines with xmr-stak-cpu downloaded from github. Avast marked them as containing malware. I think it might be the algorithms for which the antivirus is looking, it might be too similar (same?) as what regular malware would include - at least I hope so (that it's not a virus in there).

As with poison and medicine, the difference is sometimes very minimal...

Is there a safe way to run it? Can I use it inside vmware workstation? But my vm is only limited to 16 cpu though.

If you downloaded it from the github link it is not a virus/trojan/malware ect.

Just add it to the exceptions list of your av program.

Purchased this expensive CPUs to mine monero with current dropped earnings? o_O
Just FYI: Better just buy coins and you'll get more higher profit in short period

Thanks guys, but my pc has very sensitive information. I feel uncomfortable disabling my antivirus or allow potential malicious files. Maybe I will figure a safer way around.

I'm not sure how much I will be making in a day though if I get my dual 2699 v3 running @ full potential. How can I estimate my earning?
