@posternutbag

But there are other things as you know. Xeon E5-1650v2 is overclockable. Both of those processsors consume 130Watts. If you overclock Xeon E5-1650v2 to catch, 3600 x 1.22222... you must have to run it at 4400MHz, that is quite high! You need a big, at least 250 Watt cooler, with a lot of noise probably.

Personally, I can advice you, Xeon E5-2658 v2 that I have 2 pieces. It runs max 2600MHz with 10 cores, but consumes 95Watts only. A real silent CPU, but a bit more expensive....

people tend to over-inflate prices when selling on STH. not sure why. maybe too big an audience. I never buy here. always cheaper elsewhere.

The Guy is not even factoring in eBay fees and time spent on listing. It's just sad to see.

good to hear. I thought for the longest time, dell doesn't support oem cpu. Guess may HP may also work? i know for sure intel S2600 doesn't support 2696 v2

Are there XEON series CPUs? Please tell me, I am interested, this is my mailbox:foxcommicheal@gmail.com
Hello Michael, welcome to STH ! ...This is a rather old post, but yes, these are Intel XEON series CPUs for LGA 2011 socket type mothetboards . These CPUs are used in workstations and servers, usually with ECC memory and heavy computational loads.

FYI Guys these two CPUs are still pretty cheap and pretty powerful especially if you combine two of them.
The 2696 v2 runs at identical single core turbo speeds as a 2697 v2, and since it has a 100mhz boost in ALL CORE turbo speed, the 2696 v2 is actually the better processors, especially when you factor in a lower TDP of 10 watts for more 100 MHZ.

According to some quick calculations, these run about $100 on ebay right now, with the 2697 about $15-20 more!

2696 v2 is oem so may not work on all MB. The combined multicore speed of two is just slightly faster than one1950X TR, which is still very fast in term of multicore speed for most people. It does use a lot of power though and you do need dual cpu 2011 v2 MB which is not cheap and have very slow single core speed. But for that raw multicore performance at the current price there is nothing else that can match it if you only count cpu price.

This is is very good information to point out, the 9696 v2 is OEM and may not work on all mainstream motherboards/manufacturers, so it is something to watch out for. If you are still choosing to go down this route, I would recommend something like the HP z820, which is a dual socket LGA 2011 motherboard, with this combination, will give you something like this with CPU-z score, and like you said, will provide slightly better performance than a single 1950X TR, as you can see here.

You can also see here, that contrary to what you read on the internet, the 2969 v2 has a single core boost of 3.5GHz, NOT 3.3GHz....

Good information to know that 2696 v2 works with the HP z820 which i am a little surprised because i figure hp might not support oem cpu since this cpu is not on their z820 cpu list. I know it also works with Lenovo D30 which i have. I personally prefer the Lenovo D30 (dual socket will work with 2696 v2) and S30 (single socket but doesn't work with 2696 v2) because they both use mostly generic components including psu. I just replaced my parents s30 psu with a drop in from best buy for $40 after the original went out from power surge.

Someone here also mentioned before that 2696 v2 does work with dell T620. I know for sure 2696 v2 doesn't work with intel s2600 MB but does work with asus z9pe MB

That's good to know. I've kept my eyes open for homes for the 2600 v2 family of CPUs so I will keep the Lenovo D30 on my short list. However, I am partial to the z820 for absolutely sick liquid cooling system.

Until you have a breakdown, then you will appreciate the lenovo near complete usage of generic components ;)

just made an offer for two 2696 v2 at $79 each. With tax to my state on ebay (you suck for starting to collect tax on EVERY state), the total came out to be $169 and change for two 2696 v2. So not too bad I guess.... YMMV

1950X multicore performance for $169. even one single cpu multicore performance here is much better than anything you can get from intel or amd right now for around $80. Not to mention the saving on ram price...lol..

If you are building a system with two of them I have extensive benchmarking stuff you could compare performance with.

Whats the benchmarks?

I was expecting the seller not to accept my offer.....lol... oh well.. ;) It would've been nice to be able to use this in the lenovo s30 but that's not the case. I do have two D30, one with dual 2695 v2 and another with dual 2667 v2. I guess this will replace the 2695 v2 cpus and then i can put those 2695 v2 which are not oem into my s30.

2695 v2 is also 12 core 24 threads but the overall single and multicore speed is basically mediocre.
2680 v2 is only $55 now...lol... for $55, i don't think you can find a new intel or ryzen cpu that can beat the 2680 v2 in multicore performance either.

Looks like the price drop in v2 cpu is making them a bargain again if you willing to use older MB and hardwares.
