GA-7PESH2 is a no go. Single beep then power cycle. 2650v2 boots fine.
seriously? I thought intel was the only pathetic one locking out oem cpu. I guess not....just sell your ga board and get the asus z9pe-d16...

I got myself a 2680v2 and tried some overclocking. I had to give it 1.150v to go beyond 106Mhz. I get 3.5GHz when loading all 10 cores.

It is still below the 115w TDP.

from 1470 to 1555 on cnebench? so about 7%?
No, its more. The scores below are with BCLK overclock as well. Not sure about the value. I tested Cinebench with every 1Mhz bump on the BCLK.

Edit: Without OC the 2680v2 scores 1400 in Cinebench.

Thanks! Will try that.

With 2690v2 it should be possible to get 3.7Ghz on 10 cores. Lets hope they drop in price.

I did some reading about the 2696v2 and I find it hard to believe that it should have an all core turbo at x31? If it is true it would make it faster than the 2697v2. Anyone who can confirm the turbo boost in the screenshot below?

The lower TDP would make the 2696 less likely to be able to keep up the turbo multiplier and max usage compared to 2697. so the 2697 would still likely be faster most of the time.

Yes it is true. Even with high temperatures it stays at 3.1Ghz.
Though at once you use AVX instructions the speed will decrease. I will fall to 2.7Ghz and as the temperature increases fall further to 2.6ghz. I've not seen it fall to 2.5Ghz yet.

Is that TDP or temperature throttling? I cool my 2680v2 with a X61 Kraken and it maxes out at 53c when using Intel BurnTest. Produces the 2696v2 so much more heat?

You can't really make a blanket statement like that. It's going to be very workload dependent. Two different workloads that both put the CPUs to 100% utilization don't necessarily have the same power consumption or speed under load.

One workload might favor the 2696 and another the 2697.

But given how much the 2696 costs when the supply was there vs the 2697, i think 2696 was definitely more cost effective. now that supply ran its course i think it's somewhat more awash. 2697 has better compatibility with MB...

If you had to start buying today would you opt for thr 2697?? Which motherboard is going to have the best compatibility for the price?

wow, that was fast. So looks like not only 2696 has ran out, even 2690 v2 also out b/c i was going to say go for 2690 v2 since that is almost as fast multithread and slightly faster single thread.

can also go for 2660 v2 which is only $110, but it's look like it's only a little faster than 2670 v1 and slower than 2680 v2

2697 is still more expensive than 2696

most cost effective right now is 2680 v2. i would go for that..... i myself got an asus z9pe-d16 which works great with win10 1709. sleep also works perfectly. had some issues with SM MB. if SM MB you might want to make sure you get the WS ones..

For you overclockers - IMHO no overclock is proven to work unless stable running y-cruncher and newest Prime95 for a while. AVX(2) need to be taxed.
