Not v2 but, at aliexpress e5-2690 is $88,65 for real budgeters! 8 cores, all core turbo bin is 4, so all core frequency is 3300MHz....
Can you explain the turbo thing? I've been looking for v2's for my ml350p, but your linked item is tempting. Kind of regretting the 1650v2 I purchased for my z420 as well...

@posternutbag and the question you are asking:

Xeon E5-1650v2 is 6 x 3600 = 21600
Xeon E5-2690 is 8 x 3300 = 26400

26400 / 21600 = 1.2222222... times Xeon E5-2690 is faster than Xeon E5-1650v2.

@posternutbag

But there are other things as you know. Xeon E5-1650v2 is overclockable. Both of those processsors consume 130Watts. If you overclock Xeon E5-1650v2 to catch, 3600 x 1.22222... you must have to run it at 4400MHz, that is quite high! You need a big, at least 250 Watt cooler, with a lot of noise probably.

Personally, I can advice you, Xeon E5-2658 v2 that I have 2 pieces. It runs max 2600MHz with 10 cores, but consumes 95Watts only. A real silent CPU, but a bit more expensive....

people tend to over-inflate prices when selling on STH. not sure why. maybe too big an audience. I never buy here. always cheaper elsewhere.

The Guy is not even factoring in eBay fees and time spent on listing. It's just sad to see.

good to hear. I thought for the longest time, dell doesn't support oem cpu. Guess may HP may also work? i know for sure intel S2600 doesn't support 2696 v2

Are there XEON series CPUs? Please tell me, I am interested, this is my mailbox:foxcommicheal@gmail.com
Hello Michael, welcome to STH ! ...This is a rather old post, but yes, these are Intel XEON series CPUs for LGA 2011 socket type mothetboards . These CPUs are used in workstations and servers, usually with ECC memory and heavy computational loads.

FYI Guys these two CPUs are still pretty cheap and pretty powerful especially if you combine two of them.
The 2696 v2 runs at identical single core turbo speeds as a 2697 v2, and since it has a 100mhz boost in ALL CORE turbo speed, the 2696 v2 is actually the better processors, especially when you factor in a lower TDP of 10 watts for more 100 MHZ.

According to some quick calculations, these run about $100 on ebay right now, with the 2697 about $15-20 more!

2696 v2 is oem so may not work on all MB. The combined multicore speed of two is just slightly faster than one1950X TR, which is still very fast in term of multicore speed for most people. It does use a lot of power though and you do need dual cpu 2011 v2 MB which is not cheap and have very slow single core speed. But for that raw multicore performance at the current price there is nothing else that can match it if you only count cpu price.

This is is very good information to point out, the 9696 v2 is OEM and may not work on all mainstream motherboards/manufacturers, so it is something to watch out for. If you are still choosing to go down this route, I would recommend something like the HP z820, which is a dual socket LGA 2011 motherboard, with this combination, will give you something like this with CPU-z score, and like you said, will provide slightly better performance than a single 1950X TR, as you can see here.

You can also see here, that contrary to what you read on the internet, the 2969 v2 has a single core boost of 3.5GHz, NOT 3.3GHz....
