These deals keep getting better and better lately on the v2 cpus. I will have to collect a few more. On a side note one of my dual rigs had a long running issue fixed by moving to v2 cpus. The Asrock ep2c602 had intel driver stability issues under win 10 with v1 cpus that required a group policy edit to keep windows from updating the driver to keep stability. I don't seem to have any of the crash issues or need for that fix with the ivy bridge chips.

good to know... I remembered a lot of people had that MB and would get random lock up in win10 and could never resolve it... so you don't lock up randomly anymore? does s3 sleep work also?

Yep full S3 sleep works as well. I am running the Bios P1.90 that I got direct from ASROCK that is the newest bios when I installed these ivy bridge chips a few months ago. I don't think that bios is up on the site to use but I know it has the spectre/meltdown stuff added among other changes.

yeah, the two 2695 v2 i got are sitting in the asus z9pe-d16 MB.... I have to say though, thanks to amd getting back into the game, the latest cpu are now really getting to be very competitive with the v2 cpu in term of multicore... of course, there is no comparison when you talk about which has advantage in single core or ram prices... but as far as multicore raw performance, what used to be server is now getting mainstream.

i am playing with a laptop with i7-8750h and the multicore performance is near 2670 v2 level! with of course much faster single core performance.

I think everybody wants to buy matched pairs and not single cpus :D
well, it's all sold out again anyway now.... oh well, maybe there will be another batch? it seems like there is an unending appetite for these v2 cpu when the price is right.

Might have to grab one of these while I wait for the v3/4 Xeon's to drop in price :D
Keep waiting...I'm in the same boat (plus DDR4), likely will be another 2-3 years before they really starting comming down (V4's), SP is still too new.

V3 QS can be had for good price from time to time. They spiked after All-core turbo unlock "feature"/ BIOS hack became public. It can't be done on V4 so assuming the demand is not that high for the V4 QS compared to V3.
Still waiting for lower speed DDR4 (2133/2400) to comes down. It has been very stubborn.

I was lucky enough to get my hand on two 2686 v3 for $500 each and two 2696 v3 QS for $650 each. these cpu seems to be a lot more now on ebay. question i have is that does this all turbo hack only work on x99 boards like asrock x99 taichi or would it also work on SM x10SRA? how about a dual cpu board like asus z10pe-d16 ws?

So the bios has to support it - correct me if i am wrong but i don't think anu SM support this.

It requires bios mod on any motherboard and only with V3 CPUs. There is a humungous thread on Anandtech on this topic. Asus Z10PE WS are preferred but I believe SM boards also can be modded. I never ventured because I didn't have a need. Some folks here have done it as well.

Take E5-2683 v3 as example , that is the reason why E5-2683 v3 is highly desirable.

14 cores x (base 2.0ghz to 3.0ghz), gain of 14ghz

Before the publish of v3 all core turbo secret , I picked up a pair of retail E5-2683 v3 for $125 each.

The first 10 or 15 pages have the details / steps to accomplish it. Rest is lot more discussion.
Like here most likely there are lot more readers (lurkers) than registered members.

Take E5-2683 v3 , older E5-2683 v3 ES chip ( no turbo , not worth buying ) is hoovering just a bit tad below $300.
Before the mega thread, $250 for QS or better is the high end of price range, now I am seeing $500 on ebay today.

In the mega thread, some kind soul produced bios mod for ASUS ,ASROCK , MSI ,Gigabyte boards.
Took few minutes to flash the bios with the bios mod. Boot the OS, you are set to have all core turbo performance.
