14 boxes + 1 spare?

The V2 CPU's are pretty efficient for being old... I have 2630 V2's (2 each in 2 nodes) and the chassis consumes only ~130-150W, or 65-80W per node. With 2 SSDS, 4 x memory sticks, a dual port 10G nic, this makes the CPU very efficient. Plus DDR4 is still really expensive. You can get a V2 system on Ebay for <400$

I grabbed a couple and also from the same sell got 2x 2650L v2's.
The 70s are for a workstation build and the 50Ls in to the HYVE-ZEUS-V1-1U-BAREBONE-SERVER-W-X9DRD-LF-TW008 to move my vCSA and plex VMs into.

yeah i got mine single a while back, was lucky to get it for $115... even at $130 it's not bad cpu at all. Its still so interesting to see how 4+yrs old stuffs are still very competitive compared to the latest stuffs....

I think trying to find compatible 8GB DDR3 at good pricing is more difficult than finding cores. Lots of cheap 4GB sticks out there though for boards with lots of slots.

shouldn't have much problem with getting a 32gb set of 4x 8gb ddr3 as long as you get all 4 from same seller

16GB sticks show up at ~45$ all the time. It's the 32GB sticks that are still rediculous (150-300$ each)

Never looked at 16GB sticks, as thought their pricing would be too great, and I'm only wanting to get 64 or 96GB. Will start searching...

have a go on Ebay. I have an alert set up for SMC board compatible 16GB sticks from SK Hynix set up for < 45$, i get pings almost every other day when new listings show up. Sometimes you'll find them as low as 38$ a stick.

It’s all about ddr4. We really got screwed over by the ram manufacturers.
Ram costs as much or more than CPU.

Wish Another big company would make ddr4

2690 v1 is significantly faster at single and 4 core. 2670 v2 is significantly faster at multicore. 90-100 for the 2690 is not bad. the v2 parts usually run cooler though...

$50 for 32gb ddr3 4x 8gb
IMHO 8G chips are a waste of space. Those are even cheap for desktop.

I wouldn't go less than 16 myself....I guess you can probably get 2 dual 16G's for around $80-$90 tho, so there is a $10-$20 premium for 32G chips.
