Unfortunately I believe I have the RSV-R4000, which does not seem to support 12x13 boards. I think I'll pick up two Evo 212+ coolers (instead of Noctuas since they're $) and see how it does.

Any PSU with 8-pin motherboard + 8-pin gfx should work, right? I can't remember if the GFX 8-pin connectors are keyed differently. I am thinking I want to go closer to 550 - 650W on the PSU since I don't think it'll draw near that.

Also - I am used to Dell R710/R720/R730, etc. Does the S2600CP2J have decent IPMI/OOB control? I just need remote KVM and power status/etc. My TS140 has "IPMI" but it's janky as hell and uses the onboard NIC and is awkward.

TS140 AMT works fine on my unit. I only use it to remote power-on, nothing else so I my experience is limited to just that. The only restriction it seems: You can't access TS140 AMT from a guest VM running on the same TS140 host.

An 8 pin PCIe power plug is NOT wired the same as an 8 pin EPS12v/ATX12v power plug. And, fortunately, they are keyed different. An 8 pin PCIe power plug only has 3 power leads and ground. The other leads are for signalling whether there is a 6 pin or an 8 pin plug attached. The EPS12v has four of each. They do make an adapter to convert two 6 pin PCIe power plugs which have two of each to an EPS12v plug but I don't really recommend that approach over buying the right supply in the first place.

you can ask several others here how they like the ipmi on the s2600cp2j. i don't have any personal experience with it but i think it does all the usual..

I tried to get into BMC, when I turn on the mobo and no post, I go to Remote Control -> power on server
then the server is on! remotely

This is the log events and the place I hit to run the mobo when power on the psu and no POST

PCIE or the vga power connectors are not exactly the same as cpu/eps connectors. cpu/eps can potentially draw significant more power than the 150w the 8pin pcie has. there are adapter cables that could allow you to draw power from pcie cables. but i would probably stay away and get a psu that have two 8 pin cpu power connectors. i would get at least 750w psu. if you look at the lenovo 30, dell t7600, and hp z820 they all have above 800w.

The Intel s2600CP certainly has IPMI, but needs the AXXRMM4LITE hardware key (a teeny/tiny little board that plugs into a specific socket on the mobo) to unlock iKVM functionality and remote media mounting (USB key/iso).

Without the AXXRMM4LITE, you can still do the typical remote IPMI stuff to retrieve sensor info, reboot/power off the system etc... You just cannot use the iKVM (remote control 'vnc like') or mount remote media...

You can get the AXXRMM4LITE key here for $20 best offer (plus shipping):
Intel AXXRMM4R Remote Management Module With AXXRMM4LITE Lite Module New Pull

The above item also includes the dedicate nic without the brackets or cables, they are useless without the cable/brackets, so you'll only be able to use the AXXRMM4LITE hardware key (which is all most people are likely interested in anyway)...

Thanks guys - so I need a PSU with two EPS12v. I will peruse newegg and see if they list that specifically.

I would prefer a dedicated NIC for IPMI/KVM but I guess I can live without it. This box will be remote of me.

That's an EVGA X99 Classified board I have laying around. Was going to build a 2011-3 workstation but ended up going Z170.

Thanks everyone for your help! The board has arrive packed very nicely from Natex.

I've also ordered a pair of Noctua NH-U9DX i4 coolers which should be here Sunday Amazon says! Debating on getting a cheap Rosewill case to hold all of this or a Norco RPC-4224.

Next up is a PSU though so I can test everything.

Any details on updating firmware/BIOS/etc. on this board? I'll want to run the latest, I assume.

Also, I plan on running ESX 6.0 - any catches?
