Direct from SMC:

For Motherboard X10DRH-C, the onboard RAID controller can only support up to 16 devices. To support more drives, please use Add on Card “AOC-S3108L-H8IR”, this card will allow your motherboard to support up to 240 devices.

For your question regarding the Firmware: both the Add on Card “AOC-S3108L-H8IR”and the onboard Raid controller both share the same Firmware. The firmware can be found at this link: www.supermicro.com - /wdl/driver/SAS/Broadcom/3108/Firmware/

I went with a different SAS card I had in inventory.
