Do Xeon E3-1245 V6 necessarily need to use ECC?

Just use ECC. Save headache if you buy desktop memory and find it doesn't work.

It's the other way around. I have memory around, but don't have the Xeon processor.

Hi. I have this chance to get Xeon e3-1225 V6 at USD 108. But I only have non ECC UDIMM, regular desktop memory. Will this work? My motherboard supports it. I have checked. Supermicro X11SSZ-F. I hope someone can clarify this before I take the jump in a few hours.

Yes DDR4 ECC UDIMM is what listed as supported so should be ok in general, probably not in the certified list but mostly ok.

Good price for the CPU

Hi @Evan , I think you misunderstood me. I intend to use non-ecc Udimm. It's what I have. I'm afraid by getting this processor, I'll be compeled to get ECC, I don't want to buy new memory.

Currently using non-ecc udimm on my serverboard, with Core i3-7100. Want to upgrade the processor to this Xeon E3-1225 V6, but afraid I'll have to change memory as well. Can you confirm whether it will run on non-ecc udimm?

So you are just replacing the CPU? The memory already works in the motherboard you intend to use? Then it should just work fine with Xeon E3.

yes @alex_stief , just replacing the cpu, retaining the same memory (non ECC, UDIMM [otherwise known as regular desktop memory :)]) and motherboard.

Yep should work fine. E3’s support non-ECC without a problem.

Without ECC the Xeon brings nothing really that an i5/i7 does... but you get a cheap one so... :)

Yeah. Bought it just now. I see it as a mere replacement to existing core i3-7100. With more cores.
