Hi all,

I have an LSI 2308 in IT mode and last night when I installed the Nappit-all-in-one and tried to create a pool it threw an error and I decided to go to sleep before figuring out the issue... Fast forward to today and napp-it no longer sees the disks on that controller.

It is in pass-through mode in Esxi and assigned to this VM and I even created a whole new fresh install of the nappitallinone template and still it says "no disks available"

I've searched and cannot find anyone else with this issue. Any ideas?

P.s. I've also restarted the host twice.
P.s.s. I think the console sees the disks...

The CLI command to display all connected and working disks is format
(quit with ctrl-c)

Other option:
Enter the controller bios and check if the disks are displayed there.

Format doesn't show the disks and when I turn the computer on it loads the hba before post and it shows all the disks attached.

I would try a barebone setup of OmniOS to rule out a pass-through problem

btw
You should set time and date

I'll do that later today. Also thx I'll look into doing that haha. I literally was just following the nappit all in one guide so never got that far.

It works on Baremetal... Is something wrong with my PCI passthrough options? I'm using an X10SL7-F. As you all probably know it has an onboard LSI2308 what I find weird is that it says LSI2308_2 Shouldnt it just say LSI2308? Without the _2?

I would not expect problems with that board and a vt-d capable CPU like a Xeon

I would check
- is there a newer bios available? optionally update
- check bios if vt-d is enabled
- did you use ESXi 6.0u2? optionally try that

just updated the bios of the board to 3.0a and i'm using
2016-03-15 | 6.0U2 | 357.95 MB | iso for Esxi..

The weird thing is that initially it was seen when I did create pool but it said it failed to create the pool and to try and restart.... so I tried a restart in the morning and thats when it stopped seeing the disks.

I'm missing disks on my Napp-IT VM too. Right now I'm attributing it to the ICY DOCK. Are you using an ICY DOCK by chance? (I'm using a Supermicro X10 with multiple HBA (PCIE & Onboard) but not all are issues)

I haven't had time to remove it, and try w/out it... but from others have mentioned, and some research shows they can be 'weird'.

So I upgraded the MB bios, the controller firmware and now this is where im at....

It now says LSI2308_1 instead of _2

Napp-it Passthrough settings LSI _1.PNG

but I have a different issue now...

Esxi hangs when I plug in one of my hardrives to the bay it shows "loading module mpt2sas" as soon as I take it out it loads up....

Nappit now sees the hard drives
showing hard drives.PNG
Napp-it showing disks.PNG
BUTTTTT As soon as I plug in the other harddrive it shows

Bad hard drive nappit.PNG

Does that mean the hard drive is broken or is it another issue?

Also back to my original question which is why did esxi see the LSI controller as _2 before when it should have been _1?
