Disk shelf supporting SAS3 ?

What are currently best economical options for disk shelves supporting SAS3 and 12 or more drives ?

Supermicro JBOD? For 3.5", can have 12 in 2U, 16 in 3U, and 24 in 4U. If 2.5", looking at 24 drives in 2U. Can often find good deals on chassis, though the SAS3 backplanes aren't as common as anything 6gbit. What's your budget?

There's a big`ol SuperMicro chassis for 2.5" SAS3 in the For Sale Forums here.

A ton more than 12, maybe way more than you need.

Going to put 3.5" SAS SSD drives in then want to connect those shelves to two host servers.

@BlueFox there is no particular budget, want to hunt for a good deal, however first need to know what to hunt for :)

3.5" SAS SSD?

I googled that and checked ebay and didn't find any SSD in 3.5" ???(some really really old ones)

Even Seagate is putting 15TB SSD in 2.5"

I did find these 3.5" up to 50TB in single drive...

But I think if you were going this route you'd not be searching for a chassis :D

@T_Minus you are right, mea culpa, need to go to sleep it's middle of the night in here. I have number of HGST HUSMM16xx series drives laying around.

@Rahvin9999 that's on my list as well for hdd however so far I wasn't able to find one in EU for reasonable price.

Can always take the direct connect A-style backplane and just connect a sas3 HBA to the backplane and use sas3 disks, think it negotiates properly. Guess I could check, I have that same exact setup. :-D

EDIT: Yep my sas3 disks look good in that A-style direct connect scenario. (da1-4, husmm1680 connected to a LSI 9300-8i on a SC216 w/ A-style backplane) :-D

@whitey if each drive is directly attached to a hba controller without a backplane then I believe you are unable to attach these drives to second host ? or i'm missing something ? I would like these drives to be "dual-homed", attached to two hosts at the same time. Each host having own LSI 3008 hba controller.

Apologies, I did not see a dual-head/HA requirement in the initial post and do not have much experience in this area. Others may though.
