Thanks for the update!
It feels like a bit of a minefield tbh :)
I'm trying to be thorough because i don't want to spend that kind of money on hardware with a really short livespan.

So the link you mentioned posted a picture of the CPU with identification marks readable, by the docs provided on that same page:

It seems you can lookup the identification number in the document.
I know it asking a lot, but would it be possible to shoot a picture of the switch CPU's identification numbers?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi,
yeah thats what I thought too, but at this point it refuses to open up and I was not keen on using force:p

Removed all the screws and need to slide the top back but its not working, must be stuck somewhere.

@Patrick , could you tag Rohit for me please? Don't know his forum user id and the poster/guest name is not taggable

Nevermind, found it, there was another screw hidden under the warranty sticker

Hm the big easy heatsink was the Broadcom chip, which means the Avoton must be under this one...
any Idea how to remove the heatsink without pulling out the whole board?

Tried pliers already, but I guess the retention clips are on the underside...

Maybe I can find the pci revision id somewhere... that might indicate the stepping too

Ok
found more indicative info here

which points to stepping 8 being potentially affected.

I still dont believe that a large whitebox vendor would build a switch in 2018, basically a year after this issue was found , that would still be affected by this even if they had old stock.

I am happy to warranty the switch for a year or alternatively provide a significant discount for the second so you have a replacement (lets say both for €900) [no warranty then since I dont have anything to replace it with;)].
Retractred for now since this seems to be a fixed box (see post https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/fs-100g-networking-stuff.28388/post-295029)

I do understand the worry, but with a build date of 2018 I can't imagine those no having some kind of fix to be honest.

@RageBone you as the/a resident hardware guru - would you be able to identify a potential fix by picture? ;)
Well, maybe?
The Cisco ones for sure since they hodge podged a larger Resistor onto it.

Had a look at my own NAS that is running the 2570 with the 110ohm resistor fix and that cpu is also stepping number 8, so i assume it's a endangered CPU in your case.

Yeah, need to rip apart the other switch, the one i started with has a stripped screw so i can't take out the lower tray.
Any idea where a fix might be located? on the cpu itself or surrounding board?

well, either it is a fixed cpu which the stepping should tell you, i think, or it is a board level work around, or no workaround.
Technically it could have roled out with a fix out of the factory, making it hard to spot if it isn't bodged on.

So, only thing that could tell us anything are many many detailed pictures of the pcb and that's basically it.

Well since its stepping 8 which seems to be B0 I think it would have to be a board fix. Now given that they had a while to implement that (due to time difference between discovery of the bug and date of manufacture) I assume its not a quick and dirty job.

Pics would probably have to include upper and lower side I guess, and even then its more a guessing game than anything definitive.

Ok, thanks.

@zyxnl - Is either of my offers good enough for you or too much risk still involved?

Hi,
Sorry, didn't mean to ghost you,
I've contacted Celestica and asked them if they could confirm based on switch serial number.
Waiting for their reply before I'm pulling the trigger on buying or not.

Thanks,

Good luck with that, I never got any reply from them at all :)

Edit - you could alternatively ask by maufacturing date (i.e. starting when the provided fixed versions).

 Oh sorry, I just noticed [DPB Seastone] On boarding DPB feature to Seastone HWSKUs (#4235) · Azure/sonic-buildimage@f18b612 only exists in the master branch, so should use the mirror of the master branch for testing
