Recently I've had to redo my disk setup in my R410s to fit in 10G network cards. I had to remove the H200 from the PCIe x16 slot and put the 10G card in there. I noticed the server also has what dell calls a storage slot x4.

I picked up the card for this slot, which is a Dell SAS 6/IR. I wanted to just use passthrough or JBOD this time around. I believe these cards only do RAID 0 and 1.

So my question is has anybody flashed these with the LSI firmware in IT mode? And if so what firmware version and tools did you use?

I think the LSI equivalent is LSI SAS 3081E-R (IR or IT mode).

It's this type of card to avoid confusion:

that appears to be the same modular raid card that works on dell m1000e blades, you can find h200 and h700 for that slot. the h200, which has dell p/n x905n can work does passtrough/jbod mode.

It is indeed the same card I bought one from one of those dell blades.

The problem with the H200 and H700 is that they get caught on the heatsink for the chipset on the right of the slot. I also took the bracket off my normal H200 and that gets caught on the heatsink also.

Took the plunge today grabbed the 3081E-R firmware from LSI and the sasflash utility.

Stuck them on my dos boot disk and flashed the card to IT.

All is working well all 4 drives are now shown to OS as individual drives which is what I was after for CEPH.

The SAS 6/IR cards cost €20 on eBay which was quite good. Only 7 more to go.
