The ones I have are extremely quiet. The asking price is decent if you want that particular processor. I paid about 100 each for barebones boxes and added my own processor / memory / storage.

The picture in the listing shows the remote management board which makes the deal a bit sweeter if you want it.

Pricing isn't super great however it's not bad either considering it's a Dell. As a home system however it wouldn't be as loud as the 1U systems with four hotswap bays as those systems normally use 15k RPM fans which are loud!

Granted this same type of setup new from a Supermicro would run around $700-1k depending on some configurations.

I paid $200 each when I bought three of these from the same seller a year ago (same configuration).

The one I measured has an i3-2100. 23w idle (linux with power saving enabled), 38W in bios, 51W running BOINC project. This was with a single SSD and 16G RAM.

We have a couple of racks of these :) I confirm they are very quiet and low power.
Have a PSU ready as spare.

On the one I have with an E3-1265L, I see 30w idle in VMware, 32GB + QLE8152, no disks. The E3-1240v2s are a couple watts higher in the same config.

btregv takes offers so aim low -- I got mine for less than the RAM and CPU were worth.

I just fired up one of these. It idles at friggin 22W with one SSD. :D
It is also VERY quiet, in fact more quiet than my workstation.

At full load it consumes 110W and the CPU becomes really hot, but tops between 95-100 degrees.

However, iDRAC6 / IPMI is horrible! Seems like I got one with express version and have no KVM / Virtual Console. And the bios is superslow, and I cannot figure out how to boot from USB. Those may be minor defect though. Excellent server though! :)

I was lucky to get idrac6 enterprise on both of mine, other than the annoying java security exception/whitelisting it's relatively easy and works great. In order to boot to usb just press F11 on the dell splash screen during post(not before), if you want to set it permanently the option is available in the bios.

edit: if you for some reason have the splash screen disabled I believe the order of post is idrac -> nic -> HBA then try smashing F11, else just set usb as your boot option in the bios.
