So...a whole bunch of these were sold, and looks like people are still going cray-cray over this one. :p

Its' older tech (Xeon E5649, 12 cores, 24 threads, 8 x 2.5 inch slots, 24GB Ram) but it looks like an awesome SSD virtualization server if you pair it with some solid SSD's and the size looks just right to fit in a media cabinet if you got the 2u space. Not sure how loud it is though.

Not sure if this was posted before, but it seems like a good find:

    Dell PowerEdge R710 12-Core Server | 24GB RAM | 2x300GB SAS | iDRAC6 | PERC6i | eBay

I put in an offer for 1 meself as well :.)

You'll want an h700 controller in order to get 6Gb SATA/SAS connections. PERC6i is only 3Gb if I'm not mistaken. These machines sell for like $100 or less with a few less specs. But I guess if you need one, this isnt bad since free shipping.

Ah interesting. Thanks for that. Looks like you can pop in a H200 inside for straight IT mode passthrough as well. I scoped out a few vids on youtube that might be helpful to see the internal guts:

I actually put in a semi-lowball offer to see if the seller bites, but with so much sales and activity, he might not. Good to know the price range these go for though.

indeed, these can run a H200 with IT mode, but you need the proper cables. here's a video I made about that:

I've also made a video series covering CPU, adding a x16 GPU, and temperatures/noise/power consumption:

The other thing to keep in mind on the Perc is the drive size limit of only 2TB. :)

If anyone is in the Phoenix Metro area, I have a few E56xx servers collecting dust in my garage. I'll trade em for something interesting.
