Just curious, what part of the world you in that you're seeing the POE version? I got mine off ebay and the POE ones there are an absolute ripoff.

@ks94 - We did not do idle on the PoE version because we did not have the PoE version to test.

There are eBay listings located in China, with Chinese characters and a mobile phone number on the product photo. On Taobao, a listing with the exactly same picture for the POE version was only RMB 2280 (USD 320). The listing was still there on Sunday but now it is gone. The same Taobao seller is still selling the non-POE version for RMB 2480 (USD 350)

sorry just saw this.
ill try and get some power consumption figures this weekend.
Thanks and take your time. Frankly I'm no longer interested about this as the Taobao listing in China is gone, but I believe this would still interest future readers nonetheless as such information is not available now.

Is there any use for a switch that doesn't seem to have an OS6 license pre-installed? Does this work with other open-source NOS?
They do support ONIE, but Sonic does not appear to support them. There may be some 3rd party NOS you can install on it, but I was not able to find one.

Hello everyone,
I am using a Dell N3224T in my rack and find it quiet. It is at the latest firmware.
The rack is a Hammond 24u with three Intel R2208WF servers, a Dream Machine Pro and a rack mount APC 1500w UPS.
After using enterprise Netgear and Meraki switches in the past, I really like the Dell/EMC switches. My Netgear S3300-52 switch was louder than the N3224T.

I had a go at the really cheap N3224T-ON switches from eBay. I was able to pick one up for under $90 including shipping. Out of the box it just works. The rear stack ports can work as ethernet ports after configuration (enable/config/stack/stack-port <speed> <port> <ethernet/stack/shutdown> at 100G or with breakout cables to 4x50G(2 per port), or 8x25G(4 per port). The fans are noticeable, but not loud.

For OS 6, there seems to be a permanent license in my device. There is also the option on boot to go into ONIE and SONiC can be installed.

I did the same thing as @J Hart. There is no need for a license. According to the N3200 datasheet only the 48 port switch has a no NOS option so SONiC could be installed. SONiC doesn't have the correct definitions for the 24-port switches.

Updated power consumption thread at https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/power-consumption-thread.34673/post-319086

55.5 W, 45 db idle/steady state

Unlike the N2224 in this article, the 8GB Innodisk 3IE4 mSATA appears to be hidden under the management CPU's heatsink so I couldn't inspect what class it is (standard or industrial). There is an eMMC that contains the EDA-DIAG partition. Both could be backed up using Clonezilla Live, booting from USB. I couldn't get it to PXE boot, despite changing network CSM to legacy then enabling the network stack to allow IPv4 PXE.

To prevent anyone else from struggling with changing the stacking ports to 25GBe Ethernet Ports. I found the commands needed in the "Dell EMC Networking N-Series Switches CLI Reference Guide" Note, until this is configured, the QSFP will not be recognized with the switch in stack mode and show interface will display the ports as detached. Further, changing these ports from stack mode to ethernet DOES NOT take effect until a reload. I wasted too much time trying to figure out that caveat.

I used a Mellanox 100Gb QSFP -> 4x25G SFP+ DAC (PN: MCP7F00-A003) and it worked flawlessly. The switch even recognized this cable as supported.

Code:
console#config
console(config)#interface hundredgigabitethernet 1/0/1
console(config-if-Hu1/0/1)#hardware profile portmode 4x25g
console(config-if-Hu1/0/1)#interface hundredgigabitethernet 1/0/2
console(config-if-Hu1/0/2)#hardware profile portmode 4x25g
console(config-if-Hu1/0/2)#exit
console(config)#stack
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/1 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/2 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/3 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/4 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/5 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/6 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/7 ethernet
console(config-stack)#stack-port twentyfivegigabitethernet 1/0/8 ethernet
console(config-stack)#end
console#write
console#reload

I just bought one of these from Server Supply and I'm hoping there aren't any gotchas and I picked up the right thing:
Going to the Server Orbit link and elsewere on eBay these were all like $350-$400 now, at least from what I found, so I thought $260 was good. Bought a few breakout DACs as well from eBay so will see how it all goes.
Something I'm curious about with these - a few folks noted that they run loud and I'm wondering how they would run if I swapped out the fans for Noctuas or better yet some Arctic S4028's (I say better yet because I just bought a bunch of these) and if it would in fact run quieter but still reliably without overheating. I'll be using this in a homelab where the most I will do with it is some storage testing while 4 or 5 people hit my Jellyfin server from outside so, I don't think I'll ever come close to pushing this thing.
Has anyone tried this? Any alarms from lower wattage being pulled, if so?
I'm thinking maybe it even makes sense to put 4 quieter (probably Noctua) fans in and use Y-splitters from the two to two more in those empty slots. This is all assuming those are regular schmegular fans in an adapter which looks to be the case from pics.
Anyone? Buehler?

I have one in my office and the fans in my opinion are not loud at all. I really like this switch.
OK that's great to hear. This will be on the other side of my living room for the time being, something like 15' away so I think it should be alright then. Thansk a bunch!

So a little update in case anyone was wondering, it was too loud for me top be right next to my workspace so I swapped out the fans with those Arctic ones mentioned above. It didn't use a standard fan header so I needed to solder the new fans to the old but they're working well. They're actually quieter and more so less buzzy and annoying sounding, but ALSO the PHYs are about 4C cooler as well, so, that was just the icing on the cake! No alarms or alerts or problems either, seems to be working just fine. Now that I have standard fan headers I may try some of those Noctua resistor things that will slow the fans down a bit more to see if I can get it slightly quieter while still cooling well enough, but regardless it's already a big improvement.

Did you have to rearrange the fan cables or was it only the connector that is different?
