I picked up two Dell EMC OEM Seagate Exos X16 12TB SAS drives (P/N 118000937,
firmware VV08) on eBay and they're completely locked — reporting 0 bytes capacity
and rejecting all commands. Hoping someone here has dealt with EMC-locked SAS drives before.
Hardware:
- Model: STENSKF3CLAR12T0 (Dell EMC OEM, firmware VV08)
- HBA: LSI 9300-8i in IT mode
- Drive 1: Serial ZL2LLPXA | PSID: YH1G08DV51G1E0HGE6YZMYDSWEFXD590
- Drive 2: Serial ZLW2CFPM | PSID: L0CJU6XPWP5FBP4F9JACFEHYVS79JC39
What I've tried:
- sg_format, sg_sanitize → "Device not ready"
- sedutil-cli → rejects drives (TCG Enterprise SSC, not Opal)
- SeaChest_Security --revertSP --psid → "not supported on this device"
- openSeaChest format/erase → fails
- Multiple power cycles → no change
The drives appear locked at the TCG Enterprise SSC level by a Dell EMC Unity/SC
array I no longer have access to. SeaChest reports "Encryption Support: Not
Supported" which suggests the drives are hiding their TCG capabilities entirely.
Both PSIDs are confirmed from the physical labels. Has anyone successfully
performed a PSID revert on TCG Enterprise SSC drives outside of a Dell EMC array?
Any tools, firmware tricks, or contacts that could help would be hugely appreciated.
