I also got suckered into a cheap SC420 chassis, though I have it with an EMM from a DELL MD1400 series chassis (that combo is very cheap and I hoped it would work with SATA). It does not work with SATA
I have some interposers on the way (LSI, around $5 each) and I'm hoping they will work.
My other idea is to actually wait for an MD1420 backplane (not normally sold separately) as AI (Gemini) keeps telling me the backplane from an MD1420 changes the behavior of the EMM firmware to allow it to accept SATA disks. I highly doubt all of this and have no idea where it's getting this information from. But in for a penny, in for a pound. All in the pursuit of performance.
Interestingly, HP SAS drives (spinning iron, 10k RPM drives work just fine, but I don't want to use them, really).
