"@Klee what is the power consumption on those nodes? That is only slightly slower than the dual E5-2628L V4."

I do not know yet, my kilowatt meter is 110v so I need to get one that will work with 250v.

I tried t0 update to the latest bios in Ubuntu and it does not work. So I'm installing Windows 7 Pro VL, from when I had a MS technet subscription, onto a spare drive and will try the windows version to update the bios.

Plus I think it would be handy to have a ready to go Windows 7 hard drive I can use on any node.

EDIT: It kept bluescreening during the install, something about a nv something or other error.
So I assumed it was the OEM Dell Nvidia card I was using so I swapped it with a OEM Dell ATI card and that would not even let the node boot.

So I stuck the Nvidia card back in but in the bottom slot of the riser instead of the top and restarted the install and that worked. Now just doing the massive amount of updates to Win 7.

Which currency would this be profitable to mine for? At 3480 H/s and minimum power consumption numbers the only ones with profitable values are XMR, ZEC, and LTC(which is less than pennies on the dollar per month). Admittedly, I don't know much about cryptomining and I'm strictly looking at currency values on cryptocompare. I didn't see the specific currency in your OP but saw a reference to XMR in your screenshot post, so is that it? Appreciate the insight. I could see how doubling the amount of nodes each time could become more profitable. Starting off with 4 nodes, then adding 2U more worth, for 8, so on and so forth. At 13920 H/s the profit per month isn't anything to scoff at, though, ignore admitted I would be interested to know the power consumption to see how it would pan out across 16 individual dual-proc nodes.

Yes XMR is what will be mined for the foreseeable future. I still do not have exact power usage yet.

@frogtech a lot of us who have been mining Monero for some time are also ruined insofar as we have seen a dramatic price increase. So while we see one daily profit today, we are hoping for another doubling of the currency in a few months (which almost happened last week.)

@Klee - It is all about the power at this point.

I am going to hijack Klee's thread for a moment.
@frogtech
I mine XMR to have my new shiny hardware to pay for itself in some months.

Here is my math.
My little setup mined 0.8 XMR per day, 24 XMR per month, at the current price $36 = $864 per month
It cost me about $250 for electricity, then it left me with $614 profit per month or $7368 per year to pay for new toys.

What hardware did you use for mining? Just CPU based?

The main worker is a ASUS 4 nodes 2u chassis, each nodes have 2 x E5-2650 v3 , 2 x 4gb ram , 16gb SSD.
the ASUS node produced 876 H/s , each chassis is 876 x 4 = 3,504 H/s , consume 576 watt .
I have 2 ASUS chassises, each ASUS chassis cost me about $1500.

2 X RX 480 cards host by a MSI x99 board with a E5-2650L v3
1 x RX 470 card host by a Asrock Extreme6 board with a E5-2673 v3

So E5-2670 v1 x2 is just a bit less than 2650 v3, in terms of H/s, just going off Patrick's chart of Monero mining performance. Is the primary difference for you between the v1 and v3 chips in the power consumption? I think I may have seen where you said you disabled some cores in some other posts but I haven't dove deep into them yet.

Were these those 2U 4 node Asus chassis that were for sale open box on newegg?

Getting off topic a bit guys... should I make this into a new thread? @Marsh that is awesome. And @frogtech I believe these are the new but closeout priced servers.

Finally updated Windows 7 and flashed the first node to the latest bios.

Two reasons for installing Windows 7 on a dedicated drive that will only be connected for maintenance , easier bios flashing , and using windows only programs to modify the bios when I want to try to run V2, ES or QS cpu's.

Now to update the bios on the second node.

Don't forget the value has been going up if you look at the history, yea a few ups and downs but a trend that is heading upward, so it should get to ROI sooner than your current prediction.

I'm doing it as a hobby so I can get cooler hardware.

It seems to has a little better performance on Ubuntu 17.04 vs 16.04.02.

~875 H/s

Thats about 5H/s faster than the other node running Ubuntu 16.04.02

Installing Ubuntu server 17.04 on the first node, the Nvidia driver hosed itself and I do not feel like fixing it.

Anybody see something strange?

How can a two gen older cpu running at a few hundred mhz slower have better per core performance?

Also looks like I need to look for some 256mb or 512 mb DDR3 sticks of ram...:D
