Yeah only 3Gbps. Forum member has a backplane for SC846 chassis:

Our very own eduncan911 has the part: FS or TRADE: Supermicro SAS2 6-Gbps Backplane for SC846/SC847 Chassis $230 shipped (lower 48)

The TQ (24 SATA connectors) or A (6 SFF-8087) non-expander backplanes should be cheaper but not sure the part number.

Edit: SAS-846TQ. Not sure if they have a SFF-8087 A Version for the SC846, I understand the SC847 has it.

Ah, I see...it's an all in one unit unlike my Norco case without a built-in expander. I guess this makes this an OK deal then.

Those SAS 3G backplanes have serious issues supporting SATA drives.

The seller, Mr. Rackables, has several of these for sale. Based on the specs, looks like they have SFF8087 connectors, but only a 3Gb backplane? Anyone know if I can swap in a different, SAS2 expander? That would make these a good deal I think.
PM me I have 2 846 chassis with SAS2 backplanes I may sell...I can probably do $370 including shipping in USA..
