Good find! My biggest concern is compatibility. Are supermicro boards picky? Can I use any brand as long as the specs line up?

Thanks

They aren't picky until they are. Stick with Samsung, SK.Hynix and Micron/Crucial and that'll help. Normally they'll work but you'll see plenty of cases on this site where people got non-HCL RAM and it worked and other where it didn't.

Good to know! I'm worried that if I buy a bunch of sticks from ebay and they don't work I'll be stuck with them, it may be worth the cost reduction on the off chance it does happen however.

Just check the Memory List, as long as it's on there it'll work. MiniKnights suggestion is 100% the best way. Got most my sticks around 75-90$.

Unfortunately for the specific model motherboard I'm looking at the memory compatibility list is almost completely empty! It uses the same chipset as their other boards so I'm hoping it will work with the same memory modules.

Not to put you off but I just sent back 2 16GB sticks (M393A2G40DB0-CPB which are on the HCL of both the X10DRi-T4+ and the X10SRI i tested them with) to a thankfully very understanding seller.
In fact, the other 14 sticks of the same model work fine - just those 2 cause errors.

I have not contacted SM as the seller has seen similar issues and offered to swap the modules, but I am not too keen to go the Ebay route for those again. Never had an issue before though, but this time its a mess.

Nice:)
You will most likely only be able to run them at 2400 as that's the max that the board supports on LRDimms - On RDimms you might only see 2133, not sure what those really are.
