Hello All

I bought this little switch to connect my servers together and accordingly the manual I need to ground it.

My servers are Quanta Windmills and they are simply sitting on a metal shelve with plastic feet.

Where should I ground my switch?

Thank you,

Find this manual of grounding DGS-1100-08 switch, maybe it will help you.
Thank you. I have the manual.

Where do I ground the other side of the cable?

1) on the metal shelve? Not a good idea I think :)

2) on the middle prong of a the plug?

Normally it’s the side of the switch, are all your cables correctly grounded as well ?

Normally just bolting into the rack is ok for me, especially since even the patch panel terminations of each cable are grounded as well.

I don't use a rack because the open compute nodes aren't standard size.

They are sitting on a metal shelve.

They are connected to the wall with an acdc psu using a three prong plug.

Do you know if the ground is for esd purpose or for compensating the two prong acdc network switch plug?

I don't know what to think when I read the following discussions.

Reddit - networking - Does you use the grounding points on your switches/routers?

Grounding would be esd purposes, the 2 prong power pack should be double insulated if it’s approved for sale just about anywhere in the world and it should be marked as such.
