I am sure we had a thread with some discussions on this, a friend asked me ‘if it could’ fit question so maybe somebody has seen one of these ?
@Patrick had one for a look right ?

  • CSE-E301
Product page says 2 x 2.5” @ 15mm z-height

Would it be possible to fit 4 x 7mm sata ssd in that case some how ? With 2 or 4 (not sure 4 is possible on a HH card ?) m.2 NVMe drives on the PCIe slot.

Believe he will be using the m11sdv-8c board or rather probably buying the prebuilt option that SM offers for that.

Supermicro has a top for these that can fit four SSDs. It is thicker than a 1U though.

Need to double check we have the 301.

301 is 1.5u (higher top case) but I also think I have seen something called a 302 ??
Looking for the 4 SSD case option for sure.

I looked for the manual , and I didn’t find it, must be blind !
Ok i see how that works and looks good.
Will work as expected, when he buys one will get some photos for the thread. Does look like a solid solution for a small system that’s for sure.

If I was going to do that for an always on system I would choose the A2sdi-8c that idles at only 14-15w and use the same case.

The 'top-hat' allowing you to put 4 SSDs is pretty huge tbh, but I wonder can this chassis accommodate other embedded platforms like some of the older Xeon-D stuff? With a 150W AC adapter could you stuff 4 Intel SSDs, an NVMe M.2 SSD + a 10 Gig NIC, a SATADOM and still be okay?

@frogtech thats sort of what he was thinking but didn’t need 10g but with 10g they would make good cluster nodes for a small install.

Any of the D-1600, D-2100, C3000 should work fine in the case as it works in the one without the top I would imagine, didn’t see the case commonly available though when I looked.

Is there a Supermicro P/N for it I could reference if I reach out to them for a purchase inquiry?
I got ours early so I would not trust the part numbers on there. Better to ask your reseller.

I dropped a message to wiredzone, if I get a reply will update the thread.

I noticed on Newegg the photos also show another drive below the PCIe slot. Wonder how many drives could really fix in the E301 :)

I would order right now to find out but just dropped a bit of $$ on a Cisco 802.11ax across point.

Now if only the embedded platforms didn't cost 1k per mobo on second hand, for the relatively feature packed stuff.

Yeah not cheap but simple solution with usually the important features all on board.
If 4 and 8 core boxes are all that you need they are still a good option I think, small in size as well.

Anyone ever find out if the E301 will be available as the chassis only similar to the E300? Or get a P/N for the top cover?

Looks like the dual fixed bracket is MCP-220-30101-0N.

I see it listed a few places (out of stock) but at silly prices.
I asked wiredzone and no reply.

Really would be nice if available...
I would try one, size is really good.

I'm considering the Supermicro AS-E301-9D-8CN4 for a small home server, but I really need it to fit at least 1x 3.5" drive.

It was suggested here that a 3.5" drive could fit
https://www.servethehome.com/supermicro-as-e301-9d-8cn4-review-embedded-epyc-appliance/

Does anyone know if that's been confirmed for a 3.5" HDD to securly mount instead of 2.5" drives?

Or as an alternative (possibly better one) where to get the brackets to mount 4x 2.5" HDDs?

Also considering just getting the board and another case that will easily fit 1x 3.5" HDD. I've never seen a MB with 8-Pin power connector though, not sure what PSU I'd need to get.

Thank you

Did anyone ever find a part number of location to buy just the top hat portion of the CSE-E301? Or has anyone made a 3d printable version of the top hat that has been publicly shared? Thank you.

Never found it but now the case is available as a standalone item so while it’s not super cheap also not so expensive buy the new case and then just sell the old one after swapping ?

Thank you very much for the feedback. I have been checking prices for the full case, but the only price I saw that I was comfortable with was from a questionable reseller and not sure if I want to take a chance on them.

Is there that much of an aftermarket for E300 empty cases to make that feasible? I hadn't thought of that option.
