I would like to crossflash that controller to the equivalent Dell-version, because of spindown of active configured disks.
There are some differences in the Cachecade mechanism implemented between these two card, but since I don't want to use it anyway, I would not care about loss of functionality.
When I compare the two firmware LSI<->Dell, there is a distinctive difference in the size of the roms.
Dell: 4.7MB, LSI: 8.9MB.
I've read dozen of threads, where you all have been discussing crossflashing HBA to IT mode, but I did not find any info about a successful crossflash of those cards.
May it be, that it's a simple boot to DOS and running the firmware update command?
Or is the "write down SAS-address" and set it back also necessary?
If something goes wrong version/functionality-wise, is there a way back to the old firmware afterwards?
I would be very greatful, if you could point me in the right direction.
