I got a HP branded Intel P3700 of Ebay recently.
Now I wanted to upgrade to new drivers in ESX and found that I should have a newer Firmware release on it... So i went on to flash the drive but that wont do...

/opt/intel/isdct/isdct load -f -intelssd 1
Updating firmware...

- Intel SSD DC P3700 Series CVFT6176001C400GGN -

Status : Please contact your Intel representative about firmware update for this drive.

Is there a way to crossflash? Or would I need to dig around for a matching firmware (and tool) from HP?

Unfortunately I doubt that there's a way to crossflash oem firmware to intel firmware. This is the case for intel dc s series sata ssd, or at least I have not found a way to do it anywhere I looked online.

Q: How do I update my NVMe SSDs and all related solution firmware?
A: Hewlett Packard Enterprise provides a path for customers to update their NVMe SSDs and NVMe Enablement Kits using the Smart Component packages and HPE Service Packs for ProLiant (SPP). These SPPs will be available on the Hewlett Packard Enterprise site under the HPE Support and Drivers section.

So looks like I am out of luck without a HP server to run an update on.
Will try to get my Hands on a SPP, maybe I can extract what I need.

...Those need a support contract :/
