I get patches from the standard vmware patch portal. I don't believe you need any special privileges for that...

I wished VMUG would supply patches :(
The VMUG site has VCSA v6.5.0b available to download (~7G), but doesn't have just the upgrade (~1.5G). Attempts to d/l the upgrade from the standard site results in "incorrect permissions".

The upgrade solution is to use the vCenter Server Appliance Manager at https://fqdn:5480 and navigate to/execute update.

Doh, I always forget that gui part - I searched inside vCenter for it and couldnt find it, tried dl'ing an updated version from vmware (no permission), looked at VMUG (already downloaded vSphere there) and then resignated..

I was able to apply this by logging in to vcsa:5480 and selecting update from the menu.
