CPUs supporting ECC data

Just starting this post for those needing more detailed ECC data on various Chipsets/CPU's

Pays to read the articles very carefully before purchasing ECC memory, to avoid dissapointments
Very useful the X3470 data I've referred to for the last 2 years

Xeon X34xx data

Xeon E3-1200 v1 series data, but same applies to V2

Xeon E5-2400 data (none yet)

Xeon E5-2600 data

Is my ECC actually working, quite hard to tell with windows.

But if you grab/make a Ubuntu Live CD.
Boot to this.
Hold down the down arrow at Ubuntu logo, scroll down to 'memory test'
Now it runs Memtest

It lists the RAM in your machine and if it's ECC capable.

You have to enable ECC testing as it's off by default
Press 'C' then goto ECC
Enable it
'Continue'

Thats it.

Dang. I'm printing this one out. I use Mint, but happen to have a few Ubuntu DVD around...
