CPU without cooler: how long for test bench -> post

How long can I safely run 2x AMD EPYC 9845 160 cores without any cooling, just to check if everything is ok, does it post, also a quick look at the BIOS?
Is there a way I can keep an eye on the temperature?

Even for scientific reasons: don't think of touching the cpu lids with your fingers, some cpus generate per mm² more heat than a stovetop (and you can cook a thick ribeye there...)

I've done it a few months ago with an AMD Threadripper Pro 64 Cores for a few moments to check if it posts, it did. That's what made me dare ask the question about the SP5. but, noted, don't even think about it.

How about this:
Can I safely run an air cooler without thermal paste?
Since I'm waiting for the AIO cooler (being produced as we speak), I can buy a proper air cooler only for testing purposes.
Applying the thermal paste and removing the AIR cooler later could possibly damage the CPU, break the silicon or stuff like that. Thst's the only reason I'm asking about without paste.

Regardless of my earlier non-sense, even the air without paste, how would you do it? just to test if it posts, perhaps even configure somethings while waiting for the final cooler.

I'm happy to get 2 AIO coolers that will stay there till the new AIO is ready in a couple of months. Then use the 1st AIOs as permanent test coolers for the next machine, only if I can safely remove them with paste form the CPUs.

How did you do it the first time with the Threadripper CPU? Doesn't your success with that CPU suggest that it *might* also work with an EPYC? Is this personal experience more or less informative than advice from internet strangers? If you were confident in running the Threadripper CPU without a heatsink, without first asking here, why didn't you do the same with this one; what changed? If you do try to run these EPYC CPUs without a heatsink and they don't POST, would you conclude that they arrived non-functional, or that they died from being run without a heatsink?

You want to run a $10K 160 core CPU without a cooler to see if it works? Ever heard of something called a warranty? You buy it, and if it doesn't work, the seller/manufacturer replaces it.

They do if you haven't abused it by running it without an adequate heatsink.

big`ol chunk of copper sitting on the cpu will give you enough time, im just picturing a 2"x2"x48" piece of copper resting on the cpu as you test
