Just got this and noticed there's a silk-screened warning on the board that says it requires 200 litres per minute airflow.

Not wishing to get it all hot and bothered, what would be a suitable fan to fit the heatsink, a suitable fan/heatsink combo to replace the existing heatsink, or some other solution?

The heatsink is approx. 50mm x 50mm square.

I already have a 40mm square fan, but I can't see how that can be mounted satisfactorily to the heatsink.

Do they come with a bracket to mount in the adjacent card position?

I used zip ties to mount a 40mm fan to the heatsink of my Mellanox CX-3, that'll probably work for this Adaptec card too.

Technically I think these are case fan screws, but yes they are basically wood screws. They are just the right size to fit between the splines of most heatsinks with just the right amount of friction to be very secure.

I do this on my SAS controllers including on the MB, on the southbridge, on my 10Gig NICs, etc.
Because they are not in a server room that is 60F and where you can run the case fans full-bore (200CFM+) so this gets enough airflow that the heat is removed fine with the fans at sane levels.

*IF* you are feeling a little more brave, I also remove the heatsinks, clean them, and put much higher grade TIM on them, that will often get me another 6-10C. Same kind of thing as you would do with CPU. Just have to be confident on what you are doing, don't want to crack the chip or the board.

I do spot check the temp of things from time to time.

There is an official fan kit for the controller, but I can't find the information on microchips site anymore.
The only link I have is from mouser: https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Microchip-Microsemi/2284300-R?qs=TvvQbJ1XQ%2BmUKuTKdq4%2Bqw==

Here is the kit through, microsemi:

@jcl333 What size of screw are you using there for those fans?

Are you guys using pressure optimized fans or flow optimized? I can't tell which is which on the small fan sizes.

put a 120mm fan on top of your pcie cards so it cools all of them. Small fans are noisier and they wear out faster.
I made some brackets out of coat hanger wire, mounts to the screws on the PCIE slots on the case.
