Hey,
I still have a few very old servers lying around and I'm wondering if throwing in some new MBs, backplanes, PSUs could work with some handy dandy dremel engineering. The idea is to make a new storage server on the cheap.
I have the following that I could use basically as a barebones chassis with a fan assembly:
2x Sun Enterprise e450 - holds up to 20 3.5" disks
1x Sun Enterprise e250 - holds 16 disks afaik
2x Sun Storedge D1000 - has a weird 12x vertical LFF Disk arrangement, idk if they make "modern" backplanes that could fit.
Tbf I know that it sounds like a stupid idea, but I'd still want to hear your thoughts.
If I ever manage to find somewhat compatible hardware I'll post progress pics ofc.
